King of Jordan has sacked his government in the wake of street protests and has asked an ex-army general to form a new Cabinet.
King Abdullah II
King Abdullah asked his former ex-military adviser Marouf Bakhit to form a new cabinet.
The move comes after thousands of Jordanians took to the streets inspired by the regime ouster in Tunisia and the turmoil in Egypt and called for the resignation of Prime Minister Samir Rifai.
Mr Rifai is blamed for a rise in fuel and food prices and slowed political reforms.
The Royal Palace said that Mr Rifai's Cabinet resigned on Tuesday.
King Abdullah also nominated Marouf al-Bakhit as his prime minister-designate, instructing him to "undertake quick and tangible steps for real political reforms, which reflect our vision for comprehensive modernization and development in Jordan," the palace statement said.
The king also stressed that economic reform was a "necessity to provide a better life for our people, but we won't be able to attain that without real political reforms, which must increase popular participation in the decision-making."
He asked Mr al-Bakhit, 43, for a "comprehensive assessment ... to correct the mistakes of the past."

Barack Obama....Jimmy Carter in Black and white.
And radical Jihadist Imam Obama puts another notch in his belt.

He’s making a good move. It keeps moderates in his camp. It creates space. Note how the Islamists are calling for an “honest and honorable” man. They mean themselves.
Abdullah’s walking a tight rope. What both he and Mubarak need are brazen aggression on the part of their respective Islamists. That will let them crack down and take them out.
Then you find your Milton Friedman and get your country back on track. These riots are over empty hands and empty stomachs.
Put money in their purses and food on the table through capitalism and you’ve got something. Look to Chile for the model.
Of course, we’ve got the worst American administration since Clinton managing things - bad thinking, bad attitude, bad results.
A concept foreign to tribalists.

Yep, that tribalism doesn’t work in 3rd world countries or American cities, but the people rarely learn.
