Long-awaited, from-the-hip memoir offers raw, unvarnished look at eight decades of history
"If you are not criticized, you may not be doing much."
So declares former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in his news book 'KNOWN AND UNKNOWN'.
In the book, which streets next week, Rumsfeld details his half-century career in and around the ring -- and West Wing.
It is based not only on Rumsfeld's memory but also on hundreds of previously unreleased documents from throughout his career.
Now only the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal:
# Rumsfeld warned in 2001 of Afghan swamp and not to make a career out of transforming Afghanistan; parts ways with neocons on use of military to spread democracy around the world
# Lashes out at Clinton, Kerry, Biden for flip-flops on Iraq: You wouldnt want to be in a foxhole with them.
# Disputes Powells claim that he was duped by administration on Iraq WMD, says Powell was no Bush administration maverick
# Bashes CNN for concealing Saddam's crimes against humanity prior to start of war
# Document: Rumsfeld pressed for more troops in Tora Bora to get bin Laden in 2001
# Says biggest regret not insisting on resigning after Abu Ghraib
# Says McCain had hair-trigger temper and a propensity to shift his positions to appeal to the media
# Shares his side of a decades long feud with Bush 41
# Aide tells Rumsfeld on 9/11: Youre a son of a bitch. Lives to tell the tale
# Had young Geraldo Rivera arrested in 1970s student protest, when he was known as Jerry Rivers
# Describes surprising encounter with Elvis in The Kings Las Vegas dressing room
# Recounts weird meetings with a confused President-elect Jimmy Carter
# Kissinger during last days of Watergate: Rummy, we dont even argue with Nixon anymore
'KNOWN AND UNKNOWN' ranked #2,064 on AMAZON's hit parade Wednesday evening.

I don’t know, having Dick tell ya he has your back in the woods hunting grouse.. sounds like a ‘risky scheme’ to me..
It’s a shame neither actually had a shot earlier on to run for the big enchilada position.. some things might have been a bit different then they are now.

That said, I'd be thrilled if Rumsfeld could arrest him again so FOX could get someone decent and actually conservative on the weekend. This should be a good book!

Doc, Fighter Jock to boot, I didn't know he flew until I read a bio on him in the early 2000's.
My guess is he does not suffer fools gladly and this book will eviscerate a bunch of weenies...

This is, according to Geraldo Rivera, but I think he is full of crap....
I personally know, at least 3 people who were classmates with Geraldo Riveria when he was in law school in brooklyn.
They said they called him Jerry, and he referred to himself as Jerry, they also all claimed he did use the name "Rivers", (though one of them, says he would sometimes call himself different names, like Rivera, Riviera,). Most of the time, he was referred to as "Rivers"....
One of the guys who was in his class and knew him, also said that Geraldo Rivera passed himself off as spanish and jewish, depending on the situation and whom he was dealing with....
Ironically, only one of them, actually disliked him, one of them was indifferent to him but had nothing bad to say, and the 3rd one, actually did like him, and said he seemed like a good guy.
I'm not to keen on trusting Geraldo Rivera on his name claims....

I saw a photo of Rumsfeld as a pilot. Quite a good-looking guy. I’ll have to see if I can find it. He’s really a versatile person.
I’m looking forward to reading the book.

Rumsfeld was a happy warrior. It was great watching him run circles around the media dumbunnies.
To: Sonny M

Agreed. Your friends suggest he was something of a social chameleon. His professional career backs that up. Every story has a personal connection to him. Every world event involves someplace he has been. Blah, blah, blah. Somewhere out there is a written record of the name involved in the arrest, and I bet Rumsfeld is correct!
