Having a better relationship with Obama allows McCain to have the president's ear on his key priorities, while Obama can gain a clearer picture of what is happening on the Republican side by talking to McCain.
While there was no doubt they have differences on many policy issues, Obama and McCain discussed areas where common ground between Democrats and Republicans might be found.
McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said they discussed the situation in the Egypt and the Middle East, immigration reform and border security, free trade and ways to end pet spending projects called "earmarks" that are tucked into the U.S. budget by lawmakers.
"Senator McCain looks forward to working with the president to address issues of mutual concern for the welfare of our country in these challenging times," she said.

I never apologize for anything because its a sign of weakness but I apologize to all of my FReeper FRiends for McCains getting re-elected. A lot of us did what we could but the elitist, Save the Status Quo Republicans topedoed Hayworth on us.
Supporting any canididate who supports Illegal Alien Amnesty...supports Illegal Alien Amnesty
McCain and Obama ready to do the bidding for the Hispanic Ku Klux Klan groups....pushing the Illegal Alien Amnesty/Aztlan/Reconquista agenda
If McCain goes for Amnesty, how might a recall work in AZ?
Where did Ol’ Campaign McCain go?
Thanks, Zonies, for re-electing this blithering idiot to the US Senate!
I have some advice for you, Senator: Send Obongo Bozo a letter politely refusing to meet him, and then tell him to kiss your ass!
I think that I just threw up... yep... you nailed it.
But McCain never had a feud with ObaMao. Who can forget McCain talking his introduction speaker to task for having the temerity to use ObaMao's middle name? Who can forget him muzzling Sarah Palin after she gave the ticket a brief bump in the polls with her barn burner speech when the teleprompter malfunctioned? Who can forget him suspending the campaign to rush home and vote for TARP while ObaMao was allowed to vote "present".
Worst of all, who can forget him telling a national audience of the American people that we had nothing to fear from an ObaMao presidency?
BO may be nice to his wife, daughters and even his pet dog. But at heart, he is a street thug who deeply hates America and all that we stand for.
But McCain never had a feud with ObaMao.
Boy did you nail it. We really have McPain to thank for this atrocity known as the 0bamao regime. I'd just love to see Ol' Juan live up to his conservative rhetoric for 5 minutes after the election is over. I think Sarah Palin is realizing what an albatross McPain is, and the mistake she made in endorsing him in this past election. It looked to me like she was simply repaying a debt she felt she owed ol' Juan for really launching her political career outside of AK.
Thank goodness J. D. Hayworth didn’t take the AZ seat, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to see this type of collaboration with the Organizer-in-Chief./sarc
I hope you are right, but there are too many RINOs in the senate, and you know how much they care what the voters think, except once every 6 years.
Oh, how sweet; and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner.
I don't think voters are dumb enough to believe that rosy fraud, but amnesty loving politicians will try any excuse.
