Skip to comments.Sexism isn't a issue for liberals if the target is a GOP woman like Sarah Palin or Michele

Just this week, notorious camera hog Sen. Chuck Schumer said perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever heard a politician say.
In attempting to make a point about how the organs of power on Capitol Hill need to work together to prevent a government shutdown, Schumer reconfigured the three branches of government. "You know," he said, "we have three branches of government. We have a House. We have a Senate. We have a President." It should be noted that this isn't the model described in most civics textbooks, which list the three branches as legislative, executive and judiciary.
Now imagine if a Republican had said that. Better yet, a Republican woman. She would be called stupid. She would be mocked on cable news and spoofed on "Saturday Night Live." Her credibility would be questioned, and if she were attractive, she'd be discounted as a dingbat or a bimbo.
But that's not the case here. Schumer's gaffe was met with little fanfare or ridicule from the mainstream media. His interviewer, Candy Crowley, a shrewd veteran journalist, didn't even question his error.
Granted, mistakes are made on live television. And Schumer was probably tired. People in the public eye talk so much that they are prone to more verbal flubs than the rest of us. For example, when President Obama said there were 51 states, and mispronounced corpsman ("corpse-man," he said). But while Republican women like Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) have been impaled for lesser missteps, Schumer and Obama can always expect a pass.
GOP women have been called names for doing a lot less than Schumer, or for doing nothing at all: Former California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, for one, was called a whore during the midterms.

English is dead.
English is dead.
First thing I noticed BUT the newspaper usually chooses the headline, title or whatever you want to call it.
No Obama said there were 57 states
“this isn’t the model described in most civics textbooks”
...True. The NEA is working for civics textbooks to say Obama, Michelle and Hillary make up the 3 branches.
He said there were 57 states. Journalism is dead too.
I can think of plenty of other things, even excluding momentary brain lapses like "57 states". How about Biden claiming FDR reasured the country by going on TV in 1929 (3+ years before he bacame president and 20 years before the country had TV). Then there's Sen. Patty Murry (D-WA) who shortly after 9/11/2001 that Osama Bin Laden was popular in Afghanistan because he built hospitals and day care centers. Can't think of anything a pol has ever said that was dumber than that.
How about misattributing the quote on the rug in the Oval Office?
Guess I missed that one. Hard to beat OBL building day care centers though. It shows such a collosal ignorance of fundamentalsst Islam, it’s just plain scary to think someone that dumb is still a Senator almost 10 years later.
The left of center NYDaily News writes such a column. I guess they’re getting in on the Sarah Palin sells newspaper act with a twist to the right.
This entire ordeal is begging for an historical study.
You are playing my song.
Lefties are all haters but the most vicious are homosexuals, the epicenter being the “Gay Mafia” that runs the NY Times.
Don’t read the “comments” there.

It’s not a dumb senator who is to blame. It is a dumb electorate.
The most outspoken feminists appear to be ugly bull dykes.
“Stand up Chuck”...”Oh, God Love you!”
Biden @ his best.
All women are Dems and want abortions and socialism. If they don’t they must be destroyed.
Pray for Egypt
Does anyone really believe Eye Candy Crowley would have questioned his error even if she knew it was an error?
