On January 24, Former President George W. Bush spoke at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where his presidential library will be located, and weighed in on immigration. "What's interesting about our country, if you study history, is that there are some 'isms' that occasionally pop up -- pop up.

In April 2006 I published the following vanity which drew cries for me to be zotted off the forum. I doubt if we would hear loud echoes of zotting today.

Its Bush's Fault

Posted on 04/07/2006 6:47:52 AM EDT by nathanbedford

This time it really is Bush's fault and it's not funny anymore.

The Republican Party is peering into the abyss and it's Bush's fault. The party will be lucky to salvage control of one house out of the wreckage of November's election. The damage will not be contained in 2008 [2006] and a Democrat victory is virtually assured for the White House in 2010 [2008]. To the degree that one can see over the political horizon, the Republicans will be out of power for at least one generation and perhaps two as the decisive Hispanic vote swings against us.

The Anglo-Saxon tradition for respect, no for veneration, of the rule of law is being perverted on the streets of America into a cynicism which has the potential to undermine the last best hope of democracy in the world. As surely as Rome fell from internal rot, America faces the utter disintegration of its institutions. Corruption, the handmaiden of cynicism, will surely seep across the land with this inflow of illegal immigrants as our politicians, led by our president, cravenly abandon our sovereignty.

And all this is George Bush's fault.

In January 2001, George Bush took an oath which required him to faithfully enforce the laws. No fair observer can conclude that he has even halfheartedly attempted faithfully to enforce our immigration laws and to see that our borders are secure. After five years of malignant neglect the situation has grown out of control and we are confronted with the specter of the illegal aliens in their hundreds of thousands brazenly insulting the flag on the streets of America. It was utterly within Bush's power during his tenure in office to have prevented all of this simply by enforcing existing laws, but he would not. Vigorous action along the southern frontier would have radically diminished the inflow of illegal aliens. Vigorous enforcement against employers who knowingly hired illegal aliens would have changed the culture to the point where the reward for crossing the border would have been greatly diminished. Instead of a vicious circle of tens of millions of immigrants flooding every uncrowded nook and cranny in the land, a virtuous circle draining away illegal immigrants would have been created. But Bush would not.

We did not need, and we do not need now, new laws to choke off this noxious inflow. We need the political will to enforce existing law and save our democracy.

Bush has not the will.

What is wrong with our leaders? Obama is destroying our country with blazing speed and our leaders turn a blind eye.

George, why do you pretend that rolling over and accepting 30 million ILLEGALS, is some sort of humanitarian solution?

1) We MUST seal the border!
2) The continued presence of the ILLEGALS, imposes SLAVE WAGES on those here LEGALLY!
3) It is “RACIST” to promote this illegal source of cheap labor, under the pretense of helping the poor.
4) See #3 above as motivation to buy the votes of legals and illegals.

To Heck with the rest of the world (NWO), we in American can do it ourselves, we can become independent just like we were for the first part of the nations existence. Not going to be easy, but Americans are no strangers of hard work. And no more hand outs, everyone will have to pull their own weight!

The left changes their label all the time,
and conservatives really never have.

But, I think it’s time to start referring to our ideology as “Americanism”.

There are several advantages to this, including precision of definition, clarity of purpose, and it will REALLY p*ss off the left to be inherently painted as “anti-Americanists”

Maybe the dems were right and he is dumb as a box of rocks?
Nativist:
1) the policy of protecting the interests of native inhabitants against those of immigrants.
2)the policy or practice of preserving or reviving an indigenous culture.

Origin: 1835–45, Americanism

So what's the problem Jorge? America for 'Americans'
Including those immigrants who BELIEVE in the great American Experiment and its ideals. You know that American Exceptionalism thingy Señor presidente.

Yes. Americanism. I had a class in high school. Americanism vs. Communism. The class taught us the difference between free market capitalism and socialism. We also had ethics and economics. We had classes in History and American Constitutional Government. We took Algebra, Geometry and Chemistry. Pys. Ed. was an hour every day with 20 minutes of calisthenics and a run of 1 mile then playing the sport of the season Now this was all in 3 years between the 10th and 12th grade. I did not attend College but I often think I am better educated than those with Masters degrees today. I graduated in 1967.

What were the options? Algore? Yon Kerry?

Look at last year, McCain and Obama.

This is why the media and the GOP is desperate to keep out Palin. She’s been out of loop, the Club. She is unlike loser as a youth Bush, or loser, poor, insecure Yon Kerry or abandoned, pet black Obama. She has a secure internal identity. This, is a problem for the elite. They want cripples they can spackle and paint. Palin is way way too risky. Why she might even really mean what she says.

Romney would be a good choice. Another isolated cripple with a father/Mormon leadership issue, that will do ANYTHING to get and be reelected the first Mormon President, and please his daddy.

People have know idea how true the old saying of “the lesser of two evils” when voting.

Fact of the matter is that no presidential candidate has in quite some time been nominated for their parties ticket that wasn’t a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, a globalists group.

Bush (and maybe you) conflates two separate issues; Isolationism, and control of the borders.

I am not an isolationist and I want to see the borders sealed.

I believe we need to engage fully with the world AS A SOVEREIGN NATION! You open the boarders like Bush advocates you are surrendering your sovereignty.

Yes, but 4 years of Kerry (04-08) might have given us a better candidate than McCain in 08, and Obama would probably not have run against the incumbent, thus, would not be in the White House now.

Lol, well, you and GWB have proven that you can repeat the slur words like trained parrots. But what in the hell do you mean? It is not possible to be isolationist or protectionist in the 21st century, but that doesn't mean we have to give away all our manufacturing industries, and our consumer market, or open our borders to any and all comers.

You're dealing out slur words on par with the Reverends Al and JJ. Get very specific. Explain what you think you mean.

We allow 1.2 million plus legal immigrants annually. So, do you consider that to be too few? Tell us what our immigration policy should be rather than slinging around the predictable slurs in so mindless a manner.
