If you "want to be hedged for complete disaster World War III you are better off in commodity-related investments", says Marc Faber in the latest issue of US financial paper Barron's.
That might seem drastic. But Faber is convinced that China's rise, and its diminishing dependence on America, means that "eventually, we will have a war, big time".

If WWIII breaks out, the only kind of commodity investments that’ll be worth anything are canned goods, bottled water, gold coins and ammunition.
Laughing.
China can’t even feed itself.
Dependence on US ? You betcha ! FOOD.
Nothing is in place to acceptably replace the Pax Americana.
I have had the desire for the past two months to start writing a dystopian novel set two to three decades from now. But real world events seem to be spiraling out of control to a point where I dare not imagine where we end up.
bttt
China does not care about feeding people...they merely give the developed countries lip service about improving the quality of life for the Chinese consumer.
If I were the American president faced with imminent war with the ChiComs, I’d preemtively nuke em. Nuke em good.
No way I’d go toe to toe with a billion chinks.

We are actively encouraging it by letting our selves become weak militarily and industrarly. It is impossible to have a strong military without a strong industrial base. It is as it always was and ever shall be. Our children will pay for the price of our mistakes in their blood. They may curse our names.
Don't worry about it as we already have some games about post-apocalypse America

You’re killin me..
So they’ll go the way of the NORKs ?
Probably not. But I don’t see them lobbing missiles to increase food imports.
I do think Faber was on the right track in the video (especially calling Bernanke a liar :))
But I’d be surprised at a “world war” scenario like we’ve seen in the past unless it was, remind me if you’ve heard this before, “religion based”.
Even then, that is decades off.
A world war is based on long term gains of property, or ideology.
What we will see is increased regional conflict based on sheer survival.
That being said, obsolete treaties may draw in “partners in conflict”, but for my two cents (laughter allowed), I don’t see a global conflict.
I prefer Half-Life. Better interpretation of a dictatorship.
Will they let us keep the fat ones?
That post wins the “MOST IMPRESSIVE RESTRAINT” award.
I’m in awe.
“You don’t want to hold gold in America, where expropriation is a possibility, as happened in 1933.”
It’s ok....the gold is in the back of my gun safe.
So, expropriation might be costly.....
Hey there are even people on this forum that don’t believe in Christ.
And, there are even more here that believe that the solution for America is purely political.
I want to see the look on your faces when Faber is proven correct.
Bought 'em cheap, stacked 'em deep.
Toilet paper ?
Gold transactions will also be outlawed. So you'll have to convert your gold to currency on the black market, paying a huge transaction fee.
Even so, if we're in a hyperinflationary environment, you'll still be better off than holding your wealth in fiat currency and watching it all melt away overnight.
Ithink that is an entirely accurate assunption.
“Gold transactions will also be outlawed.”
ya....so is illegal imigration.....
The jerks attempting these impositions will be physically removed from power.
War would eliminate a lot of those hungry peasants.
China feels the bite of food inflation
I agree... but not certain about gold... I do not think there will be enough society left for any sort of commerce.
LLS
No good news to be had today again. I am old and tired and getting older and tireder all the time.
If we really could remove the jerks from power, and get some adult leadership back, then we wouldn't have to worry about how to protect our wealth from the coming meltdown in the first place.
Now I’m giggling so loud my doggies are looking at me like I’m touched.
Well, they should know...
Seriously! You think holding a pile of papers saying you “own” oil or natural gas is going to be worthy anything when it hits the fan? Yeah, good luck with that, and good luck getting lunch with one of those certificates!
Glad I could be part of your merriment!
the same is true for any financial asset. French Banks, Bank of China in Hong Kong (which is seperate legal entity from BOC in China) - when IRS and Uncle Sam comes looking for assets, the French and Chinese are the ones most likely to tell them to piss-off.
Did you see the link to Marc Faber? It seems that Pakistan will suffer the same fate as Egypt. I can’t believe how fast the world situation deteriorated in only a few years.
China is a food exporter.
Where do I go to get some Power Armor?
THX.
A great man once said that “No power or enemy can take a drink out of the Missippi if we don’t want them to.”
I still believe that.
Yes, but in Fallout 3 President John Henry Eden is a real avatar of the One...all hat no cattle.

they won’t depend on the US, they will just take it. that’s how

Agree — I’m getting old, but I’m glad of that — so tired of all this crap ..............
I have started saving paper catalogs that come as junk mail. Can’t flush it, but it will serve in an emergency.
Yes, I AM that thrifty.
I have decided that if there is a run on the banks or some other sign of imminent collapse I will go to the local restaurant supply and buy bags of rice and beans. Then I will have my employees re-bag such commodities in 1/4, 1/2, and 1 pound bags. Presto, the new currency!
Of course, I have other food, but it is packed for 100 year storage. Don’t want to part with that until absolutely required.
great link for when tshf

In a society where we have to use precious metals to buy food people who want gold won't worry about it being outlawed. People who want bread won't worry about gold being outlawed.
That being said I think silver is much better. Are they going to outlaw quarters and dimes? I think not. One silver dime is worth about $2.10 right now for the silver content. A quarter is worth about $5.20 for the silver and a half dollar about $10.40. Not a hard way to store a little money. Silver dollars are worth more than a $20.00 bill. Gold is great but one $20.00 gold piece will set you back nearly $1500.00, try buying a loaf of bread with that. How do you make change?
