Veteran GOP Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana has thumbed his nose at Tea Party threats. The Hoosier State Republican knows they are coming after his Senate seat in 2012 but he is not going down without a fight.

Lugar, who has served six terms in the Senate, has $2.3 million in his campaign war chest, which likely puts him far ahead of any potential primary challengers. But the 78-year old says he is kicking his fundraising up a notch in preparation for a tough assault from the right.

Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock (R ) is expected to formally launch a challenge against Lugar this weekend, according to Politico. Mourdock recently visited Washington, where he paid his respects to Tea Party kingmaker Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).

Tea Party groups in the Hoosier State have said they will rally around one candidate to unseat Lugar in the 2012 Republican primary. State Sen. Mike Delph (R ) has also been mentioned as a possible candidate.

My money says that should this RINO be defeated in the primaries that he’ll pull a Murkowski.

“has $2.3 million in his campaign war chest”

And what promises did he make and to who to amass such a sum, and was it given to shape legislation (he is for sale), to curtail legislation (nice business you gots here, shame if some government regulation were to happen to it), or dutifully paid by those who already agreed ideologically with his position (assuming he HAS an ideology beyond his own reelection).

Well?

How popular is this old fossil? Does he have “fans” ?

Don't know about the fans, but the RATS didn't even run against him a candidate last election. Election before, If I am right, Lugar beat the rat by 80%.

IMO, he’s a decrepit old insider, and what’s left of the Democrats in Indiana can’t be in love with him, either. Can they be?

No, apparently they distrust him and regard him as a phoney liberal. Totally Weird. He has proved over and over that he is for globalist treaties ending our sovereignty. Which means it is time for the Tea Party to Take Lugar Down. DUMP LUGAR! I will pay substantial bucks for a true conservative.

Really? O'Donnell raised $3 million in a couple of days from the tea party. I think we'll have a well funded challenger to bag this RINO trophy.

"Contrary to what the name would imply, the Business Insider is a liberal publication. It usually features some ugly woman bashing Sarah Palin."

I know her...It's Glynnis MacNicols, I fight with her there every day.

Every article she writes has an conservatives name in the title and I taunt her that if she didn't, no-one would read her garbage.

I find your remarks, so near to each other, to be humorous.

If Luger loses the primary and continues on to the election as an independent he is a bad sport and pulling a Murkowski.

If Luger wins the primary, the Tea party guy who lost should continue on to the election as an independent and he is a good sport a stand up guy who is doing right?

Whose ox is being gored I imagine....

This guy was Nixon’s favorite mayor 40 years ago. He has had his chance. This is a chance for somebody new to step up. That somebody needs to a little more attuned to modern times. Goodbye Dick.
