Hitchens has said that no matter what,even if he cries out for God on his deathbed, to ignore him. Happily for Hitchens God wouldn't.

Thanks for posting this. He sounds terrible, but it turns out he is just recovering from gall bladder surgery.

God saved the thief on the cross because that thief asked for Christ to remember him when He came into His kingdom. He acknowledged that while he and the other thief were being executed for crimes that they had committed, Christ was innocent. That’s repentance if ever there was any and repentance of sins is one of the cornerstones of our salvation.
