OAKWOOD, Ga. (AP) -- A college president in Georgia says she ordered an instructor's painting that featured a Confederate flag removed from a faculty art exhibit.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the flag was superimposed on images including a hanged black man and a hooded Ku Klux Klansman.

Why did she do that? Because those things never happened? Because they reflect poorly on Democrats?/sarcasm

Stupid artist, if they had used the stars and stripes instead, the entire leftist media machine and the White House itself would be rushing to defend their “expression”. Now they’ll only get support from Al Sharpton and the Clairmont Institute.

Yep...history itself must not even be looked according to the idiotic emotional progressive liberal scum in the country. No, we can’t see the reality as we MUST make symbols of our history a stick to beat people we disagree with. /sarcasm

Gainesville State College President Martha Nesbitt seems to be one of those nice old ladies they used to hire as HOUSE MOTHERS.

Her job is to RAISE MONEY, not deal with controversial subject matter ~ so, out goes the Confederacy ~ even if somebody is saying something bad about it.

Should have painted a picture of Jesus, the Pope, and Billy Graham barfing up Budweiser in an alley.

Might have got an NEA grant that way.

It’s a bit hard to follow, but it appears that the artist (Bermudez) used the flag in the painting to denigrate the Confederate battle flag by associating it with lynchings. The president was reacting to a major who objected to the flag being maligned.

Suggest you read these things called “books”. In them you will find that the Klan originally used the U.S. flag. No Confederate battle flags until much later in their history.
Check out photos of the Klan march in Washington D.C. in the 1920’s. Not a battle flag to be seen. Just tons of American flags. Klan membership was very large in states like Illinois and Indiana. Nativists on parade. I applaud the action of the college president. The artist should have used an American or both flags to be accurate.

A gold star for actually reading and comprehending the article before posting!

I really thought she was just caving to political correctness, these days ANY mention of the Confederate flag or any depictions of Klan atrocities is considered politically incorrect....and you know what that leads to, in academia!
(And by the way, nobody better mention that the Klan were Democrats!;)

Reading books is a good thing. But what do you mean by "originally"? What you are referring to was the second Klan founded early in the 20th century.

The "original" Klan was founded after the Civil War. Photographs of that "original" Klan are scarce, but since the early members were largely former Confederates, it's unlikely that they felt much affection for the Stars and Stripes, and certainly possible that they made use of Confederate flags.

Good point. However, while the “original” Klan was certainly southern in origin it spread into northern areas as well. Lynchings happened in the north and south. The artist was trying to be PC in my opinion. Let's have some perspective is all I was saying.
