Rand Paul: End 'welfare' to Israel
Politico ^ | February 4, 2011 | Jennifer Epstein

Tea party-backed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) isn’t sure that congressional Republicans have the guts to make the big budget cuts they’ve promised and, he said, members of the movement are becoming frustrated.

“There’s a disconnect between Republicans who want a balanced budget but aren’t maybe yet brave enough to talk about the cuts to come,” the freshman senator said in an interview with ABC News, responding to the spending plan released Thursday by the House Budget Committee chairman, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), which would cut non-defense discretionary spending by $58 billion for the rest of fiscal 2011.

“I go to a tea party, and you know what they say to me? ‘It’s not enough. It’s not enough. Where’s the other trillion you need?’” Paul said. He’s offered his own budget plan that would cut spending by $500 billion this year, including an end to all foreign aid and a dramatic reduction to the U.S. Department of Education’s budget.

Paul, son of libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), said he is a “true believer,” determined to stand by his tea party values and not get bogged down falling in line with the GOP.

“There are always problems in our nation’s capital that are more important than party affiliation, and I will always believe that,” Paul said. “It’s not necessarily tea party versus Republican Party, but I would say that if you ask me what’s more important — tackling our nation’s deficit, our nation’s debt problems or being a Republican — I would say tackling the debt.”

Paul also defended his calls to end aid to Israel, saying they’re just part of his bigger efforts at fiscal responsibility. “I’m not singling out Israel. I support Israel. I want to be known as a friend of Israel, but

That is true, it is the reverse of the injunction not to treat a Foreigner in an unjust manner, the Foreigner actually has far more license to disregard our laws than the Citizen.

His father Ron Paul has been and is a nut and it looks like his son Rand Paul is an ANTISEMITE and a nut as well.

Almighty God has promised the following regarding HIS special people Israel: "I will bless those who bless you and CURSE those who curse you." Hey Rand Paul... that goes for America too!

It looks like Rand Paul wants to throw Israel under the bus. It is the same old song and dance: "It's all the JEWS fault." ... "If we get rid of Israel and the Jews and our support for Israel then all of our problems will be solved and the world will love us."

America... Israel is the ONLY free nation and true friend America has in the Middle East and Rand Paul and his ilk want to bring the curse of almighty God upon America by throwing them under the bus!

Rand Paul, does not represent the Tea Party, he does not represent CONSERVATIVES and he does not represent me. He makes me ashamed to be an American!

Why do we have to pay for our allies?

Our allies should be paying US for protecting THEM.

Sheesh.

What part of this statement do you Freepers not understand?

"I’m not singling out Israel."

Instead of reason, all I see are knee-jerk reactions smearing Paul as an anti-Semitic bigot.

How about SEPARATING friends for enemies, instead of treating them alike?

Dear Rand Paul, the Christians trust the Israelites to preserve our Christian heritage more than we trust the Islamists. Should Israel fall, Christian landmarks also fall, as any non-islamic relics would immediately be destroyed. In the bigger picture, I don’t mind paying Israel to play security guard.

Yet....he IS singling out Israel.

Naming them now suggests he has no clue just how much the US benefits from their arrangement with Israel.

We inserted ourselves into their economy, taking the place of France, Czech, Great Britain and a couple other countries. In turn we pull purse strings, dictate how they spend their money (mandatory US contracts), and get to control who they sell their technology to. Our recent deal with Indian hinged in part on finally allowing the Israelis to sell their tanks to them. That’s but one example.

Stop aid to Israel, and you’ll find the US loses all influence in the region, unless you count Saudi Arabia...and we know how that goes.

If foreign policy is driven by superstition or racially motivated, America's ideals are truly lost.

Rand Paul questioned the financial wisdom of an ongoing policy of "checkbook diplomacy." This is not anti-Semitism in any sense. Shame on those demeaning the term with false accusations! They're as ignorant, harmful and hateful as Holocaust deniers.

It was as recently as W's administration, the U.S. was called "no friend" to Israel--an outrage! The policies and actions of the Israeli government cannot be beyond criticism; for example, Israel's attack upon the U.S.S. Liberty in international waters killing dozens of American sailors.

When they do evil, they too must be held to account. A "free pass" whether prompted by superstition rooted in Biblical fundamentalism, or out of pro-Semitic racism, is antithetical to constitutional principles and must not drive the foreign policy of the United States.

You speak as if we should be inserting ourselves into foreign economies, pulling purse strings and dictating how other allegedly sovereign nations spend their money. Isn't that what empires do?

I’m completely OK with Paul on this. We shouldn’t be sending a dime to anyone in the middle east. Let the Jews and the Muzzies duke it out on their own and cut a deal with the winner.

That jackasss Bush gave $30 billion to African dictators under the guise of “fighting HIV”. He might as well have burned it on the national mall. At least the cash we give Israel is useful: 70% of it goes right back to American defense contractors, and a nice chunk of it actually kills jihadists dead.

It is insane for the most bankrupt nation in the history of the world to be giving foreign aid to anyone. Cut it off till we are solvent. America First. Sorry if that offends some of you.

A no allies strategy works ok in a non-nuclear world. In this world, you play your cards with not much wiggle room. You are going to get attacked by gangs of thugs. You can, of course, fight by yourself if those big oceans protected you. They no longer do.
