US special envoy Frank Wisner has said that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should remain in power to oversee a transition to democracy.

The remarks appear to contradict previous US calls for Mr Mubarak to begin an immediate transition.

Wow! Do they have Obama locked up and gagged in a closet somewhere in the WH?

They are so in over their heads. They realize their words have no pull. So, at this point - the US is left with confirming what is already decided by Egyptian officials and trying to say they have some type of part in the decision. Weak

That’s a good question.

Maybe there’s been a palace coup.

Possibilities

1. Administration is duplicitous and doing the usual ‘Arab’ thing by saying one thing to one group and something else to another

2. Open defection in the administration.

3. Spokesman is incompetent

4. Administration is incompetent

5. Both 3 & 4 are true

6. Obama is uninvolved

Please note that none of these possibilities are mutually exclusive.

Apparently, US Special Envoy Frank Wisner is in charge. He just did a 180 on an important FP issue. Has he told Obama yet?

That would make Bambi do exactly the opposite.

Hence, to me, this means that Bambi is no longer in charge.

I have already emailed this note to my friends-—

The Brits and the Germans have just handed Obama a vote of no-confidence in his leadership.

From the Wall Street Journal—

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron, also in attendance, supported Egyptians’ demand for reform but stopped short of calling for President Hosni Mubarak to step down immediately.

“I don’t think we in the West should be the ones to point fingers and say it’s this leader or that leader who has to go now or start now,” Mr. Cameron said. “We should say that we back countries that are putting in place the building blocks of civil society, and that’s exactly what we’re doing in Egypt.”

Ms. Merkel urged a “peaceful and orderly” transition in Egypt, even at the cost of delaying elections while civil institutions capable of supporting a new government are put in place.

“I think it would be wrong to hold a very quick election as the beginning of a democratization process,” Ms. Merkel said. “We have to give the people the chance to build the corresponding structures.”

Hopefully a janitor or something. They usually have some common sense.

My guess: King Abdullah (you know, the one that 0 kowtowed to) called the WH and he explained how things work in the ME to the boy who would be king.

Maybe (.)bama is still getting his ass kissed by BOR and not available for comment? Seriously, this is an amazing thing to see. From the now is now comment from Gibbs (the gift that keeps on giving and I am sorry to see go) to the special envoy who obviously must have missed the policy briefing before he left the WH. On the other hand, perhaps his position was dictated by Beria, I mean H. Clinton, before he left.

This whole administration is baffling. How about we bring in some grown up leadership.

Looks like there is no one, who takes Obama seriously (other than in terms of damage control). Blair, European leaders, Arab leaders... all consider him Zero. And now his own envoy.
