W.H.: Resignation of Mubarak son not enough
Politico ^ | Feb. 5, 2011 | Glenn Thrush

The White House is now openly pushing for replacing Egypt President Hosni Mubarak with a temporary caretaker government that includes the military and is applauding a decision by Mubarak’s son to step down as head of the country’s ruling party.

But a senior administration official said those steps weren’t enough - and suggested that Mubarak needs to take “additional steps” to quell the chaos in the streets of Cairo, which is threatening to sink Egypt’s already foundering economy.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking to a conference of allies in Munich, Germany, on Saturday, expressed support for a transition effort led by the country’s vice president, Gen. Omar Suleiman - and said it was vital for Suleiman to reach out to all opposition groups, including the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

“There are certain things that have to be done in order to prepare” for open elections, Clinton told European leaders.

And in another signal that the administration sees Suleiman as key to resolving the crisis, the White House said Vice President Biden spoke with Suleiman on Saturday about “progress in beginning credible, inclusive negotiations for Egypt’s transition to a democratic government to address the aspirations of the Egyptian people.”

The question NO ONE is asking is; who is in line to take control of the country?

0bama is pushing Egypt into further chaos. Where are the adults?

Oh, yeah, there are no adults in elected office.

When the sheeple made him Leader of the Free World.

Know any sheeple? I do.

Every known islamist front-group is clamoring to get their people inside the power vacuum created by this tossing out of 40 years of diplomatic normalcy.

“Where are the adults?” Great question.

EVERYBODY (except for FReepers) seems to be losing their FREAKING minds!

Is this the end of times? It’s almost like the world itself is trying to start a world war.

The administration's behavior is appalling.

It is as if the administration prefers chaos to any semblance of stability in Egypt.

And, perhaps, for their own sinister reasons, they really do...

At this point, one must also ask, why didn't the Iranian people get this kind of aggressive support from an American President...?

The great pharaoh O-bam-A will be president of Egypt and the US simultaneously because of his Muslim faith and world historical importance.

Only he can guide the Egyptians to a future full of the promise of Obamacare and green jobs.

This administration needs to do their talking behind the scenes. They know nothing of discretion and or International dialogue to be doing this in full view of the audiances. Idiots.. who have no understanding whatsoever what they are doing and every time they speak they show they haven’t a clue to the reality of the situation.

I wonder if they already discussed this in detail at the last secretive Bilderberg meeting. Put the financial squeeze on Egypt to create inflation and unrest, and then usher in some globalist friendly stooge in a coup under the guise of a “grassroots” movement.

Micro managing. I couldn’t agree more with you. I think they need to have time to turn the country over to the military and strengths they have to repel a terrorist regime. I believe that Mubarik is a brutal man, but he doesn’t to give Egypt to the terrorists. Dangerous times we live in.

Yes, he AND Hillary need to STFU.

Words can’t convey how horrific their behavior has been through this whole crisis, with the whole world watching no less. Let’s see - how many more strategic allies can he throw under the bus? He’s killed two birds with one stone this time - Egypt and Israel.

And how about the supreme hypocrisy - he and his ilk vilifying Bush/Cheney for “nation building”. Then they spout THIS pompous rhetoric about Mubarak and his son??

As to whom BHO favors for running Egypt - and the rest of the world - so much enemy ass to kiss, so little time.

I hope this administration falls on its ugly face so bad with this affair that it becomes an inescapable embarassment. I just hope people from this adminstration just keep blabbing their mouths off about what Egypt has to do or should do or might do or could have done. The more the merrier. There is probably an 85% chance this goes Islamofascist, perhaps after some period of military rule, perhaps after some Potemkin village elections, perhaps, unfortunately, after some sort of civil war. The fact is, we have essentially no influence over there, especially considering the influence that Iran and Syria will attempt to exert via Hezbollah. I simply do not believe we have the ability to predict how this will turn out.

This administration needs to do their talking behind the scene.

But how can Dear Leader take credit for having "taken control" of the situation unless he does it public, for all to see and appreciate his magnificence?

It’s absolutely astonishing how this administration conducts itself on every level, but when your’re dealing with international events you need to be sure footed in your responses in every respect. Even the Egyptians are saying the US is sending mixed messages...because they are!

Egypts administration is already allowing meeings with the Mulim Brotherhood....a dangerous move indeed....how far they will permit their involvement remains to be seen. But the Military will have something to say about that no doubt....and the Military is about the only stable player Egypt has right now.
