Obama tries to woo business, slams "burdensome" tax

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama stepped up efforts to woo the U.S. business community on Monday, seeking its help to tackle "burdensome" corporate taxes in a speech to a business group that has long been a fierce critic.
Obama, on a drive to win over business and independent voters before the 2012 presidential election, also repeated a promise to advance trade deals with Panama and Colombia that would help U.S. companies, but he did not lay out a timetable for getting the pacts passed.
"I understand the challenges you face. I understand you are under incredible pressure to cut costs and keep your margins up. I understand the significance of your obligations to your shareholders and the pressures that are created by quarterly reports. I get it," Obama told the powerful U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has often opposed the president for what it sees as his "big government" agenda.
Members of the Chamber, which the White House has accused of funding ad campaigns against Democrats during last year's congressional elections, listened politely but were mostly noncommittal in response to the president.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs later told reporters that Obama had not gone seeking applause.
"Another barrier government can remove is a burdensome corporate tax code with one of the highest rates in the world," Obama said.
Calling taxes a burden chimes with the view of the corporate world, and is another example of Obama's efforts to repair relations between the White House and businesses after steep losses by his Democrats in November elections.

Obama is a walking lie.
“Business must make money and use it for good things and share nicely”
The whol place should have told him to shut his stupid incompetant trap and listen to how business works.
The pablum I heard he told them must have really torqued at least SOME of them.
You know he’s lying. Obama taught Marxist theory and redistribution when he was an adjunct professor. That is what he believes in.
isn’t he repeating what Palin said at the reagan 100th birthday event. If you really believe this, cut corporate taxes
Can we just make him a trivia question - tomorrow, next week, sooner? If I never hear that crypto-communist clown’s name again it will be too soon.
Message: I care.
Amazing these Rats’ can talk like they are outsiders when it’s their policies that cause the harm....
Corporations DON’T PAY TAXES. They collect them from their customers and pass them on to the government.
But Obastard has no intention of making it easier and cheaper to do business in the US or he would be hiring the heads of the various departments who would be looking to eliminate job and profit killing regulations instead of the big government socialists that he has put into EVERY agency.
for business to grow requires deregulation and detaxation...both of which will cause the DC Federal bureaucracy indigestion.
they have forgotten for whom they work...and given a choice between acknowledging responsibility to We the People in Flyover Country..and the accumulation and retention of power to themselves....they are turning the screws on Flyover Country.
Watch and see. He will ditch his base and start to run heavy to the right. The economy will start to improve just in time for heavy campaigning '12.
That assumes that all the digital inflation created by the FED with QEII does not hit and gas has stayed under $3.50 a gallon.
I'm thinking the summer of 2012 will look alot like 1979 complete with a islamic revolution in Egypt, Iranian nukes, a misery index worse than Jimmy Carter and Hillary either the nominee or making a serious threat to become it...
Only stupid folks and the media are buying Barry’s crap.
The man is RESPONSIBLE for these burdensome taxes and regulations that are hamstringing businesses! Woo business my foot!!
Oh gee, nonsense, the only time the pear headed little bastard lies is when is blue lips are moving.
Not expecting applause... good thing he was not disappointed.
Business will do what is right for the share holders. Right now holding pat and making tax resistant investments anywhere in the world is the right thing to do. Minimizing exposure to the uncertainty of dollar collapse and taxes here is the other right thing to do.
Screw you barry Boy.
also repeated a promise to advance trade deals with Panama and Colombiawake me when Zero tells the truth about something. Thanks Sub-Driver.
“Yeah, I’m gonna get ridda yo burdensome corporate tax. All’s you gots to do is give half y’alls profits to my reelection campaign to qualify.”
I thought he taught LAW!;)
He's never so much as owned a lemonade stand. How could he understand 'the challenges' of buisness?
I listened to his reading of the script today. I think he realizes his days are numbered. He tried to come across as reasonable, but it fell flat. Few bought into his empty platitudes.
The Chamber of Commerce is usually politically neutral, but they actually came out against Kerry/Edwards because they knew the lawyers backing Edwards had caused untold damage to US businesses. Now that the Kenyan Pirate sees that he’ll have a tough time winning re-election, he has to reach out to the one group many Americans will be looking to for ideas and strategies on job creation: the Chamber of Commerce.
He was supposed to teach a course on law, but he really taught redistribution theory. Many of the students complained to the dean that they weren’t being taught what they signed up for. Even though he wasn’t allowed to keep teaching, Obama was protected by a few higher powers, and kept a cushy job (salary) for doing nothing.
