Here's the link to Mansfield ISD. The Dallas paper is saying that the Arabic course is not mandatory, but after reading the PDF (second file at the link below) about the class, I am not so sure.

http://www.mansfieldisd.org/curriculum/foreign-language/arabic.htm

What does the 100 minutes per week look like?

Students will receive an average of 20 minutes per day of Arabic language and culture through social studies classes, advisory once a week and intermittently in electives such as technology applications, art and P.E. This grant provides for 100 minutes each week out of 1875 total instructional minutes. They will also have access to Arabic literature in Language Arts, as well as having opportunities for language acquisition through the use of Rosetta Stone and iPod Touches before and after school as well as during the school day....

Will every student be studying Arabic?

Every student will have the opportunity to participate in the program.

They took your link down. Hmmmm. I think it said “mandatory” some where, as reported in the original story, but they are now backtracking on it.

I know, but I just wanted to start out with misogynistic phrases and sentences to bring home the reality of what the leftists are doing to the leftists themselves. Feminists, where are you?

I doubt if they'll teach the fact that Mohammad was a pedophile and a liar.

Arabic is easy to learn, you only need to learn one phrase to be perfectly fluent.

Allahu Akbar, kaboom.

Islamic indoctrination will be a huge part of that course.

Count on it.

Bow down to your Muslim overlords.

Simply insane.

Yes the culture

and field trips where possible

For Arabic the field trip would be to a local mosque..

Public schools do take kids to them..

to hear what Barry Dunham-Soetoro calls “the prettiest sound in the world”

This is all about the money. The school districts involved are accepting the grant money and the conditions that come with the money.

How about we have the CIA come in and recruit after they learn Arabic?

More likely Al Qeada will be recruiting. You can bet that bowing down to Allah, learning the Koran and taking Arabic names will all be part of the course.

Mansfield ISD says in addition to language, the grant provides culture, government, art, traditions and history as part of the curriculum.

That is the nut, this is not about the language.

“... and the field trips where possible”.

I forgot about that entirely! You are right.... remember the incident where they had the boys pray and one boy was Jewish?! I don’t know one public school that takes the kids to any other religious building.

They took your link down. Hmmmm. I think it said “mandatory” some where, as reported in the original story, but they are now backtracking on it.

Thanks for the headsup about the internet page containing the currculum plans for the Arabic classes being removed from the Mansfield ISD website. They now have this new message posted. I took a screen shot this time. Wish I had taken a screen shot of the PDF file that they had posted.

http://www.mansfieldisd.org/departments/communications/news/10-11/february/arabicgrant.htm

Recent concerns have been raised by parents concerning plans for the curriculum. We are working with parents and staff for the language curriculum development.

Mansfield ISD has slowed the process of implementation to get parent input for curriculum creation.

There are no “mandatory Arabic classes” as being falsely reported in the media.

As part of language acquisition and development, the early grades would have elements of Arabic language within the framework of the state-mandated curriculum.

In the K-6 grades (Davis Elementary and Cross Timbers Intermediate), the curriculum-writing process has stopped.

In grades 7-12 (T.A. Howard Middle and Summit High School), Arabic language will be offered as elective courses to meet foreign language requirement.

This project is federally funded for $1.3 million dollars over a 5 year period.

Makes one wonder about how some people interpret the word "mandatory" vs. "all students will have the opportunity". The following link says that Arabic was to be mandatory for elementary students.http://www.frugal-cafe.com/public_html/frugal-blog/frugal-cafe-blogzone/2011/02/08/good-grief-learning-arabic-language-will-be-mandatory-in-a-number-of-texas-school-part-of-1-3-million-federal-grant/

From CBS Dallas/Fort Worth, Mandatory Arabic Classes Coming To Mansfield:

MANSFIELD (CBSDFW.COM) – Some Students at Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.

As part of the five-year $1.3 Million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School. The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School.

I love “slowed the process of implementation” phrase. This means, “We have paused to pull the arrows and spears out of our backs and allow our other wounds to heal.” They will get back to us when they figure out a way to make this $**t sandwich taste like prime rib.
