Do they know of any deaths or injuries? Friends and family often work out there on a contract basis. . .

He works there and was there at the time of the explosion but is not answering his cell phone.

BTW, he served, and was injured, in Afghanistan. Has been home for a couple of years.

He’s okay! She called at exactly the moment I had posted!

He and his co-workers were working at the place of the first explosion and they left for lunch at 12:00.

The first explosion happened at 12:05.

One person still not accounted for, as far as he knows.

Will you be keeping this updated? It's about 50 miles to the West of me and may not get covered locally.
I'm interested in whether they may have been performing maintenance or if this was during normal production.
Turnarounds/shutdowns are when problems usually arise, especially when workers who are hired for such short term projects can't read the English which permits are written in.

See reply #28. Will you ask if they were doing a turnaround on that unit?
He may be told not to talk too if he's a company man so keep that in mind.
It might be better to ask before such an order is given.

If there's a Mohammad involved in this, we may never know the mysterious and unknowable details, except that he was an isolated individual whose religion had nothing to do with his actions, and the system worked because this could have been a much worse. And as a safety measure, the Obama Regime has decided to halt all use of natural gas processing for 6 months.

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

Anyone have a grasp on this?
Judging from the pic in reply 10 it looks to be a fairly small unit. Additive units usually are.
There shouldn't be too much expansion to other units if they have air operated battery limit valves. They would just shut it all down or, if not air actuated, simply cut off flow to and from that unit.

Also that the control room is burning.

That's not quite right. As long as there was no extra maintenance going on (extra hands in the unit) then the operators would not normally be in the unit itself and would be in the control room, which is a good thing because that's the safest place to be in the whole unit.

The ‘It’s Not Terrorism Task Force’ (INTTF) is on the way to the scene now.

Well, in fairness, an explosion at a plant like this really is most likely to be an industrial accident, than it is to be terrorism. Jihadis tend to prefer to blow up ~people~ in public places, not stuff at a factory.

...a wellhead exploded.
I would take that with a grain of salt. It's an additive unit, after all.

Also that the control room is burning.
Now that sounds bizarre as control rooms are usually built very strongly and are supposed to be built out of nonflammable materials.
Perhaps it's just that the flames were being blown towards the control room.
We'll see as time progresses.

I saw it. It's doubtful that a wellhead exploded as additive plants don't usually have a drilled well on site. Most of their products are piped in and out. (note the large number of pipes in the pipelines in the pics)
I would say that everything in a refinery or chemical plant is piped in. AFAIK there are no direct wells in any refineries or chemical plants.
