Several sources familiar with the ongoing investigation tell WTOP fire and police investigators believe the radiator in Turton's 2008 BMW X5 was punctured when it rolled into a workbench. The halogen headlights, which emit a bluish light and illuminate the road better than conventional headlights, stayed on after the radiator was punctured.

This is getting very interesting, so a fire is caused by antifreeze? Even so why did she not just jump out of the vehicle? What headlight burns at 240degrees? No cause of death?

No cause of death? ...

Let me speculate: zero won't release the long form death certificate.

Put me in the category of someone who finds those new bluish halogen headlights to be a road hazard to oncoming traffic. Why the DOT approved them is beyond me.

It says she was “stricken and unconscious” before the fire but it doesn't give a reason? No autopsy?

Those headlights may be good for the driver but they are hard on the drivers coming the other way.

Actually that’s not the “original” thread. That’s a “related” thread. This is a different article, with additional information, published on a different website, regarding the same incident.

Thank you I was speed reading and missed that so she was unconscious before the fire?

The antifreeze we use in cars is mostly a mixture of water and ethylene glycol. It has an MSDS flammability rate of 0. I suppose if you boiled all the water out of it you might get it to burn. Sounds mighty strange to me.

These and other new halogen headlights are not sealed beam. They do emit heat but the housings are all plastic so that doesn’t wash with me that they are 240 degrees or hot enough to ignite antifreeze. This will now cause me to break out the infrared pyrometer to do some spot checking to see what temperatures they are getting.

This sounds much more of a coverup looking for an excuse that people will gobble up. When a car overheats for whatever reason, the temps of the coolant will exceed this 240 mark. So maybe they need to explain to me why cars all over this country overheating are not bursting out in flames at the same time.

She was unconscious before the fire but.....

“From the start, investigators have not suspected foul play.”

Did she have a condition where she frequently blacked out? If so why would she be allowed to drive a car.

The more interesting thread is why was she killed. Domestic dispute or something she overheard at home?

It sounds to me like the car might have had an electrical fault in the Center Fuel Tank.
