China’s Carrier Killer Ballistic Missiles are Operational
Defense Tech ^ | 12/28/2010 | Defense Tech

It looks like this is the week China’s military rapidly advancing military tech keeps getting the limelight . First, we saw pics of the Asian giant’s new stealth fighter. Now, it looks like China is one step closer to fielding ballistic missiles aimed at holding U.S. forces throughout the Pacific at bay.

Adm. Robert Willard, the top U.S. officer in the Pacific said this week that China’s new DF-21D anti-ship balistic missiles, with their 900-mile range, have reached an early operational status.

Apparently, the missiles, widely fretted over in Washington as one of the most serious threats to the United States’ ability to project power in the Pacific (read here, here and here) have reached the equivalent of initial operational capability, Willard said in an interview with the Japanese Newspaper, Asahi Shimbun.

While the U.S. hasn’t seen an “over water” test of the missile, Willard says that the fact that the system is at IOC, means it can likely hit intended targets.

Typically, to have something that would be regarded as in its early operational stage would require that that system be able to accomplish its flight pattern as designed, by and large.

He goes on to say that while the missiles are not yet as serious a threat to American aircraft carriers as submarines are, they do represent one more layer of a complex anti-access, area denial system ranging from advanced surface to air missiles to submarines and the new ballistic missiles which could strike either U.S. allies or its carriers and bases in the region.

What a golden moment in history. President Obama can do what I always wanted Presidents Kennedy through W to do and the press and “intellectual” elites of American Academe will justify it until it is accepted as the only option civilization had.
Nuke them, nuke them now, tonight. Nuke every city in China, Nuke Iran, Nuke Pakistan, and might as well nuke Mexico. Then repeat.

They are still cannon fodder for SLBMs which can strike from much further away.

So this is where Iran is getting the anti-ship missiles.

You are correct. With their 7000 mile range you can guess their launch points.

One thought: SM-3 Blk II. Take them out exo-atmospheric before they re-enter and can start serious maneuvering.

Isn’t this the one that has to come back down from a high arch space shot, that can be seen coming for minutes? The one that requires real-time satellie observation to find the moving target?

Guess the chicoms didn’t think about “that”, or maybe they thnk we’ll just leave their spy-sat all alone and look the other way at incoming.

Like ruski mil-junk, this stuff is more useful toward civilians or poorly prepared or outsized Asian neighbors. That said, it would be ill advised to get into some Asian land war with the hoard.

In theory. That has not been tested either in a simulation or a live fire test exercise.

They also are much, much more powerful than these ASBM’s whose launch would provoke a strategic SLBM launch. They launch one it will be Sayonara.

This is sad to admit but with Obozo at the helm this country is the most vulnerable to a foreign military attack since Pear Harbor. He is a non caring weak president who constantly portrays America as the world's problem. If ever a US carrier would be attacked and Obozo failed to respond 10 fold, he should be removed immediately so that our security could be defended.

Each Trident nuclear MIRV is 475 kilotons. Each missile carries 5 MIRVs.

Here is an interesting chain.

Israel, for some reason, helps the Chinese with some electronics, some air to air missiles, and it looks like a lot of the F-10.

What do they get in return?

China helps Iran with its surface to surface missile program and now Iran produces both the C-801 and C-802 missiles. Iran gives some C-802s to Hezbollah in Lebanon, one of which is shot at an Israeli missile corvette. Only a partial hit, but it does kill an Israeli sailor.

Since China is expecting a severe drought, and since we owe them so much money, why don’t we pay the off in corn & wheat … and poison it!

They already started it by poisoning our children with lead paint on toys and our pets with tainted dog food.

Each Trident nuclear MIRV is 475 kilotons. Each missile carries 5 MIRVs.

These Tridents are intended for our second strike on Russia or China. The first U.S. strike is from Minuteman missiles to destroy military and industrial targets. The Tridents W88s are intended for Russian or Chinese cities in our second strike.

If 0bama could get away with it, he’d probably pay off the Chinese by turning over the whole Fleet to them.

Under any other president, if someone would take out a CVBG, we'd surely answer with a nuclear response. With Obama, I have absolutely no idea what he'd do, or if he'd do anything at all.

I'm afraid our enemies are making that very same calculus in their own war games. That should scare the Shiite, out of everyone.

I agree with you very much. The delibrate sinking of a carrier with 5500 souls would be a cause to strike back with nuclear weapons

Remember when he said, "We can take a hit"? His response would likely be a speech, or series of speeches, and mewling at the UN.

A lot of the Chinese great strides in technology was because the Bill Clinton Administration allowed companies such as Loral Space and Communication to sell classified technology

Looks like the chinese got a screwin from Klintoon, on their guidance systems for “campaign” funds, same as he gave the USA in our exposure to him. Equal opportunity STDs from slick and hitlery.

I don't believe this at all.

Not even the US could hit a moving Carrier at sea with a ballistic missile.

If it were a cruise missile with it's own radar/guidance...I would believe it.

Look up the Pershing II missile. Similar range, and active radar terminal guidance. This is the kind of technology the DF-21 is using. And it is not the first time it was considered. The Soviets were testing a shorter range version of either the SS-N-6 or SS-N-8 SLBM with a single maneuverable re-entry vehicle equip with active radar homing. Not wuite as accurate (late 60’s early 70’s), but that was to be nuclear armed.

There is an invention called GPS and Over the horizon radar.GPS is on all of our ballistic missiles. Did you know the Trident MIRV has a CEP of 400 ft.

I thought the J-20 strike fighter was called the "Crinton".

Of course, we could both be wrong. Maybe they'll just build a statue to him in Tien An Men Square. Of course, "devil persons" may not rate statues in the Celestial Kingdom.

Who says they are operational? Where are the tests and test results?

This DF-21D weapon has never had one single operational test...not one. We would know and see any live fire tests out into the ocean over thousands of kilometers.

it is a lot of talk...and IMHO, it is a red herring in hopes we will "think" they have it and thereby limit our operations out of fear of it. Pure Sun Tsu.

As it is, the us has developed, tested, and fielded a successful anti-ballistic missile defense on our AEGIS vessels already. So even if they do ultimately make one of these...or several...it will be charging into the teeth of our most effective defense.

And that defense is getting better. In April of this year (2011) we successfully tested an anti-missile laser weapon system. Not deplyed yet...but the new Ford Class carriers, the new Zumwalt Destroyers, and the new Burke Flight III destroyers (should we develop them) will all ultimately have these weapons on them as well.

Here's how that would work (in addition to the AEGIS BMD missiles already deployed:
