Mubarak speech surprises U.S.
MSNBC ^ | Feb. 10, 2011

U.S. sources closely involved in the government's handling of the Egyptian crisis told NBC News that they were "taken by surprise" by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement and that it appears "Mubarak is going nowhere."

The officials told NBCs Jim Miklaszewski that they were especially concerned about Mubarak's apparent declaration that he would "federalize the streets." They said, however, that their reaction was based on an initial translation of Mubarak's remarks.

"We have assurances, both private and public that the military would not fire on the people," one of the officials stressed.

None of this surprised "The U.S."

It surprised the incompetent, inexperienced, illegitimate, idiotic Obama regime, but MSLSD can't bring themselves to say it.

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

The only liberal arts course I took in college 30+ years ago that has any relevance today was a history course that covered the Middle East from the birth of Mohammed to the birth of the modern state of Israel in 1948. This was in pre political correctness days and the professor dived deep into both the religion and culture of Islam and its impact on the development of the societies and countries. The knowledge gleaned from that course has allowed me to see how inept our foreign policy has been in dealing with the Arab and Persian world. Our leaders, Republican and Democratic, deal with these peoples and nations from a 21st century secular western perspective and are constantly surprised at the behavior of the nations and peoples of the Middle East. For all of their intellectual brilliance, the modern day elites are unable to develop even a basic understanding the core beliefs and cultural norms dictating much of the behavior.

The implications of overthrowing the Shah of Iran, deposing Sadaam, and now trying to push out Mubarak were easy to foresee with only a rudimentary understanding of the history and culture of the region.

I hope some day our elites will heed the warnings of our founding fathers to stay out of the affairs of nations far away. Unfortunately, we seem compelled to intervene to the detriment of the people we are ostensibly trying to help and our own national interest.

The media will cover for the administration. Can you imagine how the MSM would have covered this if this were the Bush administration?

Well, I am NOT going back to re-read Monica's transcripts but if memory serves there was some reciprocity there... And he was not standing when he unwrapped his Davidoff...
