Egypt takes aim at Al-Jazeera for protest coverage

CAIRO (AP) — The Egyptian government has made clear it believes a chief culprit stoking the anti-government protests roiling the country is pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera. Security forces have detained, and later released, at least nine Al-Jazeera correspondents since the protests erupted last month. Authorities have banned its Arabic and English language channels from broadcasting and revoked the press credentials of all its journalists. The channel has continued to report despite the restrictions. Pro-government thugs set the Qatar-based network's Cairo offices ablaze last week, along with the equipment inside, as part of a broad pattern of attacks on journalists covering the unrest. The network has won accolades from many around the globe for its near round-the-clock coverage ... But it has collided head-on with Egyptian authorities, who have sought to portray the broadcaster — the Arab world's most popular — as a malevolent force fueling the unrest.

Egypt's newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, told Egyptian newspaper editors on Tuesday that "certain satellite channels" are provoking the protesters and insulting Egypt....

While he hasn't named Al-Jazeera outright, it is clear to Egyptians whom Suleiman has in mind, and such comments have served as a clear signal to the regime and its supporters to hit back at the network.

And they have. Besides the attack on its Cairo bureau and the detention of its reporters, Al-Jazeera said its website was hacked. A banner advertisement on its Arabic-language site was taken down for more than two hours and replaced with a slogan reading "Together for the collapse of Egypt."

The slogan provided a link to a page criticizing the broadcaster. The network has even had trouble staying on the air because of high levels of interference in its broadcast signal. Al-Jazeera said the government shut off the channel's signal from an Egyptian satellite....

Line ‘em up and shoot ‘em.

Oh, wait, first give us a chance to send over Rather, Couric, and the rest of the MSM bimboys and bimbos. We’ll offer a package deal on ammo.

I have been watching LIVE COVERAGE OF EGYPT on AJ TV and listening to the talking heads over there.

These people are being asked point blank questions, and being given time to respond fully. It isn’t like AMERICAN TV where everything is scripted and controlled.

Don’t believe me? Listen and watch for yourself

I watch it all the time. Their Latin American coverage is the best in the world. Of course you will get flamed for saying this.

Nope. No bias there.

The latest from AJTV is that there will be large protests in the morning, and the fate of the ‘revolution’ depends on what’s in DOCUMENT #2.

Of course you will get flamed for saying this.

So far, their reporters and consultants seem to painfully honest, and don't care for trying to be P.C.

A breath of honesty that shines compared to the US media.

I never thought I would consider AJ TV and PRAVDA as the best sources of truth, but then I have seen child sex being accepted by society, and Christianity being outlawed.

I’ve been watching Al Jiz, and on the subject of Egypt, they shoot straighter than the MSM does about American Government.

Al Jiz is of course whacked out about Israel and the U.S., but I don’t sense a substantial slant while listening today.

It is more fact-based than, say, CBS!

Only if...

I should have explained.

Document #2 is the second written response, by the head of the Egyptian Military, to the situation in Egypt.

I’ve been watching AJ TV as well and they seem to have the most accurate and open coverage.

And unlike CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC and FNC, the reporters don’t cry about getting a few scratches.

Faux News is amplification for Barry's talking points.

FReeper Frantzie has been right on.
