Demonstrations that began with quiet determination on the Internet more than three weeks ago erupted into riotous jubilation Friday evening, moments after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announced he would step aside.
Protesters swarmed army tanks that had been deployed to keep order, banged drums, blew whistles and frantically waved the Egyptian flag in celebration. They danced in circles and chanted.
Two men dropped to their knees and began to pray as soon as the news was announced.
"Freedom!" crowds chanted outside the white carved walls of the presidential palace.
"God is great," they shouted in Tahrir Square.
The reaction was quick to pour in across some of the same social networking sites that Egyptians used to help organize the historic protests.
"Egypt -- you are a shining light," one Twitter user posted in congratulations.

I hate that when that happen!!!
The real question is “When will Ozombie try to do this here?”
He must be stopped.
So, the Muslim Brotherhood/Obama-engineered coup detat has succeeded.
What a shameful day for America.
Im sure other allies are scared spitless.
Or, maybe they should be referred to henceforth as former allies.
Maybe now were allied with Iran and Syria. Part of the new, much more potent Axis of Evil.
Can you give a link to your source citing that poll including the number of people polled?
The constitution can be a pain in the ass sometimes but I’m not willing to sacrifice it to get rid of Obama.
Maybe we can give 0bama to Egypt?
They’re ringing the bells now ... they’ll be wringing their hands soon enough.
Hey, what can go wrong? After all, the new military leader of Egypt and our own President have the same middle name! :)
A secular Ahmed Zewail for President of Egypt .. not that incompetent fool Mohamed El Baradei!!
“”I dont think sharia law would sit well with the Egyptian youth. Lets not get carried away here.””
Due to the nature of Islamist movements and taking into consideration what Allegra actually said...your point is what? They damn well better be ready to shed blood becaus the MB is ready to.
I wonder what the polling methodology is in a country like Egypt? Is it even accurate? It’s not like here where you have a phone book, lots of land line phones and polling data that is fairly reliable.
I dont think sharia law would sit well with the Egyptian youth. Lets not get carried away here.
A recent poll by Pew Research Center showed some 85% of muslims in Egypt want sharia as the law of the land. And they’re going to get it.
How many people were polled?
People tend to think that ‘freedom’ doesn’t mean the freedom to choose sharia. If they use ‘freedom’ to choose slavery and servitude , what then?
Are you sure that the video isn’t file footage of celebrations after the twin towers fell?
You need to educate yourself... Rush read a new pew poll of Egyptians... 82% hate America... they want sharia law... just find it and read it.
82% hate America.
You need to understand that showing percentages means nothing in poll. We need to know how many people were polled in order for it to be statistically significant. For instance if a clinical trial of a drug for a disease was conducted on 10 patients and 8 of them were cured can you really then say that this drug will help 80% of the time people use it? You should take statistics.
