Egyptians Hate America and Want Islamic Rule (Zogby, Pew Polling Data)
Fort Liberty ^ | Joe Rock

Posted on 02/11/2011 2:41:09 PM PST by Responsibility2nd

In July of last year, the University of Maryland commissioned Zogby to poll the people of Egypt. Here are a few of their findings:

The Zogby poll results back up a similar project conducted by Pew in April and May of last year.  Among Egyptian Muslims polled, 85% felt that Islam’s role in politics was a positive one.  In a struggle between modernizers and Islamist fundamentalists, 59% of Egyptians who foresaw such a conflict stated they would side with the Islamists, while only 27% stated that they would side with the modernizers.

Another Pew poll last June revealed that only 17% of Egyptians hold a favorable view of the United States, while 20% hold a favorable view of suicide bombing.  Yes dear readers, Egyptians like suicide bombing more than they like you.

Pew also revealed that 82% of Egyptian Muslims support stoning human beings to death for having sex outside of marriage and that  77% of Egyptian Muslims support public whippings and cutting people’s hands off for theft.  In addition, a terrifying 84% of Egyptian Muslims support the death penalty for anyone who has the good sense to leave the religion of Islam.

As much as we may not like Hosni Mubarak, there are many worse people who could be in power in Egypt — and they are very likely to be in power before the end of the year.   We would all like to believe that the protesters in the streets of Egypt are all fighting for freedom — but that is not what they say about themselves.  By their own admission, they prefer Islamic fundamentalism to modern civilization by more than 2 to 1.  They don’t want a modern democracy; they do want to murder people for having sex outside of marriage.  They don’t want freedom of religion — in fact 84% of them want to establish the death penalty for it.

What does this sound like?  It sounds a whole lot like Iran in 1979.  Westerners with common sense should be leaving Egypt as quickly as possible, with no plans to ever return. We would like to hope for the best, but we must plan for the worst.

Editorial: What Egyptians Really Want

Posted 02/10/2011 07:20 PM ET

Islamofascism: Romantics in Western media expect "democracy" to flower from the anti-Mubarak rioting in Cairo. But polling shows Egyptians actually seek strict Islamic rule.

According to a major survey conducted last year by the Pew Research Center, adults in Egypt don't crave Western-style democracy, as pundits have blithely trumpeted throughout coverage of the unrest.

Far from it, the vast majority of them want a larger role for Islam in government. This includes making barbaric punishments, such as stoning adulterers and executing apostates, the law of their country. With the ouster of their secular, pro-American leader, they may get their wish.

Among highlights from the Pew poll:

• 49% of Egyptians say Islam plays only a "small role" in public affairs under President Hosni Mubarak, while 95% prefer the religion play a "large role in politics."

• 84% favor the death penalty for people who leave the Muslim faith.

• 82% support stoning adulterers.

• 77% think thieves should have their hands cut off.

• 54% support a law segregating women from men in the workplace.

• 54% believe suicide bombings that kill civilians can be justified.

• Nearly half support the terrorist group Hamas.

• 30% have a favorable opinion of Hezbollah.

• 20% maintain positive views of al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden.

• 82% of Egyptians dislike the U.S. — the highest unfavorable rating among the 18 Muslim nations Pew surveyed.

This empirical evidence refutes the sympathetic narrative broadcast as a continuous loop in the media over the past fortnight. Even after getting beat up by anti-American mobs, CNN's Anderson Cooper portrayed rioters as largely secular yuppies yearning for modernity and the triumph of human rights over martial law.

He and other media elite have it exactly backwards: Egyptians are revolting against Western-style democracy. The Pew poll reveals they do not, in fact, value our principles of individual freedoms, human rights and separation of religion and state.

It is plain they do not want what we want. They want an Islamic theocracy.

And it's highly irresponsible for pundits to assume they want what we do. This is serious business, and we need to deal with facts and reality on the ground and not project our values to make ourselves feel good. The media fatuously whipped up support for a "revolution" at odds with our values and interests.

Now, with a U.S. ally expected to step down, the damage may already be done. The well-organized Muslim Brotherhood, previously outlawed by Mubarak, is in the best position to take advantage of the prevailing sentiment recorded by Pew.

Hmmmmmm....take the percentages above and average them. Then nuke exactly that percentage of Egypt.....lets do this on a land mass basis. Let’s start with Cairo, Alexandria, the Nile Basin, and the like, the rest of the desert we can count as the ‘untouched’ part.

There’s an easy 100 billion of cuts to our budget. No point in sending aid to a nation that hates us.

They will starve in the dark, enslaved by the Musim Brotherhood. They have jumped off of a cliff, their timing is awful, and I seriously doubt the Saudis are doing to step in and save them.

well, let’s see now, Egypt depends, for its financial security, on the Suez Canal and TOURISM.....a large percentage of those tourists are either Americans of those in alliance with them. Without our dollars being spent there, they would be basically a camel farm with a few piles of worthless rocks.

When these morons get a taste of Iran-style rule by clergy, they’ll change their tune. By then, of course, it’ll be too late.

Congratulations, fellahs; in future, be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

Why would you say to “go eat sand”? The person’s post was about Obama, and he did say that things are getting better.
