Visual aid: How insignificant are those big GOP budget cuts we keep hearing about?

Via Ricochet, here’s a nice clip that I’m going to call “Why I Drink.” To get in the proper frame of mind for viewing, fetch yourself an alcoholic beverage and sip slowly while comparing the increase/decrease numbers in this new poll from Pew:

Not until we reach the last line do we find a plurality in favor of cutting spending, and even that’s exceeded by the combined number who want to keep humanitarian aid the same or even increase it. No wonder Obama thinks a spending freeze is good enough: The public quite clearly agrees with him.

As for tea partiers, yes, they’re more willing to cut than other demographics. But the last item here should send a chill down your spine:

Just 29 percent of tea partiers are prepared to cut Social Security compared to 18 percent who want to toss even more money into the entitlement sinkhole. GOP Rep. Tom Latham warned freshmen Republicans today that they might feel excited right now about winning the big budget battle with leadership, but wait until their constituents have to live with the cuts. Look at those two graphs again, especially the second one, and tell me if he isn’t right.

And now you’re ready for the clip. Remember, $100 billion — the GOP’s new “draconian” figure — represents just one shot glass. And even that’s enough to get Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer to wet their pants. We’re doomed.

Budget cuts and politicians are just one big joke and a perfect example of 100% incompetence.

“Budget cuts and politicians are just one big joke”

Which is exactly why Obamacare will cost far more than advertised and certainly won’t reduce the budget. The Dems got a massive new entitlement on the books last March and now all they have to do is play defense to avoid it being repealed entirely.

“Budget cuts and politicians are just one big joke and a perfect example of 100% incompetence.”

Easy to be cynical, but what’s your plan? It seems clear that that the same people that want spending cut, don’t want to cut stuff that might affect them - even people that call themselves “Tea Party”.

Hell, I’ve suggested a REALLY CONCRETE budget cut on this site have been BLASTED by us so-called conservatives.

My suggestion is to turn Social Security into a means-tested WELFARE PROGRAM. You only give money to people that have no other money, and have no other way to obtain money. Otherwise, you don’t use the power of the state to take the earnings from my kids (and future grand kids) for a bunch of well-to-do strangers.

So, it works like this:

1) Granny comes to the Social Security office.
2) The office checks her savings and her sources of income, and then uses a pre-determined formula to see if she qualifies for assistance...and if she does, how much
3) Next the office checks her relatives - if she has two kids that are doctors, you make them pay up...keep the money in the family (like child support).
4) Finally, if no other income sources are available, you give her some government money.

That should chop off about two-thirds of what the government spends on Social Security. You can add the same for Medicare premiums.

But, man, you should see the reactions I get on this site...from people who think they are conservatives.

Here's the Wee Wee's tough cut proposal:

Can't see it? How about we zoom in some ...

Still can't see it? Better zoom in some more ...

When you remember that over half the people pay no income tax, and even fewer are net contributors to Government revenue, the numbers come into perspective. For the those people the question becomes: should we spend more of someone else’s money on stuff that sounds good? And the answer is: sure, it doesn't cost me anything, and maybe I'll get some of it.
