The results of the CPAC straw poll of presidential candidates are in, and the winner is Ron Paul, with 30% of the vote. Mitt Romney was the runner-up with 23%, and all other candidates tied with about 6% each.
84% of the voters identified themselves as fiscal conservatives, placing their highest priority on economic growth and restraining the growth of government.

A lot of people just haven’t attended this year. Liberal Romney voters & Ron Paul nutballs only.
We shall see. The future of The Republic hangs in the balance.
I’m not a Ron Paul fan, but I may be forced to vote for him this time around if they don’t give me a choice of a genuine conservative who I think can win. I don’t think that Ron Paul can win, but he’s got a better chance than the few conservatives on the list now.
Well, I guess there’s little need of holding any primaries then.
So predictable. Wait, we did predict it.
I think I heard it was the largest attendence ever.
And people here get in a lather about this organization, and what it does, and who shows up.
Get a life people, CPAC is so meaningless.
God, family, country conservatives do not attend “gay” parties.
Okay so Romney won. It’s CPAC, IOW it doens’t matter.
I wouldn’t be surprised, Paul’s campaign for liberty gave some major discounts on tickets and helped fly and bus in college kids and assorted tards.
Ron Paul is way better than Huck and Mitt.
I like his son better though.
Paul, Huck, and Mitt- isn’t that like saying who is smarter, Larry, Moe, or Curley?
CPAC 2011 is expected to have record attendance, and one reason is the movement’s growing youth contingent; 54 percent of the voters in last year’s straw poll were between the ages of 18 and 25.
At this point I will vote for Madoff/Vandersloot in 2012 if forced to.
And the biggest loser is CPAC.
AMEN ! Thanks Jim ! CPAC shows the fact that it is IRRELEVENT in 2012 !
it is not the QUANTITY.. it IS the QUALITY ! enuf said..
Meaningless to the extent that any straw poll of Conservatives is meaningless.
11,000+ were at this thing. Biggest turnout ever.
Was CPAC ever meaningful?
I’ve watched a decent amount of this, and it didn’t seem like I was watching all 2nd stringers.
Palin wasn’t there, but SarahPAC was a sponsor. Huckabee I don’t think was there.
The Bushes never went. Reagan went over 10 times.
Pretty much everyone was there (not Sarah, but SarahPAC, and not Huckabee) and apparently Ron Paul won again.
I saw a lot of candidates on my tv. The victory belongs to Ron Paul.
Ron Paul for Junior College Class President !!!
Sorry Paulians...but Trump got it right...he can’t get elected.
Paul, Huntsman and Johnson will not get my vote.
imho, we need to continually press the GOP, RNC our State Rep and Conservative parties to find ONE candidate who CAN/WILL win against Mr. Obama in 2012. We cannot afford to have a multitude of candidates who will bash each other and give Obama points to use against his opponent. And, we cannot afford another candidate like McCain!! We need someone who will cause Mr. Obama to return to Chicago!
Now....who is that candidate I don’t know....but the RNC/GOP etc should be developing someone NOW! I want America back!
THE REAL CONVENTION WILL TAKE PLACE IN TAMPA, FLORIDA ON March 18-20 ! Get your tickets today before they are sold out !
Save America Foundation - Convention - March 18-20 Marriott Waterside, TAMPA, Florida
I am afraid that candidate that you seek will NOT emerge from the RNC/DNC Coalition of corruption !
I didn’t say it was low attendance. The NH Republican nomination gets high attendance too. Mostly due to democrats.
The conservative movement cannot afford to lose the younger generation to the “Hope and Change” mantra of the left.
That is one age group that Paul has tapped into very well and brings them along. Many may change as they get older but Paul gets them into the fray and they are very active.
I’m surprised that no other candidate tries to bring them in and use their talents. They can be hard workers. Someone’s PAC could sure make headway I’d think.
And Romney too. Romney has been busing his people in since 2007 at least. His dollars were able to win CPAC in 2007, 2008, 2009, but his dollars were unable to buy the victory in 2010 and 2011. Both this year and last, Ron Paul finished 1st, Mitt Romney 2nd, by roughly the same margin, 30% or so to low 20s.
Even back in 2007, the news organizations noticed that Mitt was spending money to try to win.
“Mr. Romney ran an intensive ground operation at CPAC, flooding the convention with college-aged campaign workers paying many of their registration fees and even busing some of them in and paying for their hotel rooms, according to a report in The New York Times wearing blue Romney shirts, carrying posters for their candidate, and voting in the straw poll. He also spoke yesterday afternoon to rousing applause and hosted a reception for conference attendees yesterday evening.”
Ron Paul & Mitt Romney? We’re doomed.
I thought the Tea Party event in Phoenix was supposed to be the "real" convention. /sarcasm
It depends if you consider the tea party to be the “not-so-independent-gop-connected-at-the-wallet” group.. or the 100s of 1000s of real independent LOCAL tea party groups (who may or may not refer to themselves as tea parties) all accross this great country !! I would like to see the independent folks gather at the Save America Foundation Convention in Tampa, Florida on March 18-20 ! :)
Ron Paul? He has about as much charisma as Robert Gibbs.
Look, I will vote for anyone who runs against Obama.
That being said, I hope we don’t let the democrats and the press choose our candidate this time.
Never heard of it.
How many times did Reagan speak at it?
Reagan spoke at CPAC over 10 times.
Wasn’t SarahPAC a sponsor of CPAC?
Unless you’re a big Huckabee fan, your candidate was represented.
And there was a vote, and Ron Paul won again.
Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have money, organization, or both.
The other candidates do not at this point have the sufficient money or organization to compete at all in these things. There were a lot of candidates there, making their pitches. Sounding good. But they all failed to get votes.
Ron Paul, at the largest CPAC ever, won.
Reagan spoke at CPAC over 10 times, don’t forget.
I happen to like Ron Paul, and strongly dislike Romney, but I also like Palin. But Palin’s inability or unwillingness to try to get votes at CPAC doesn’t mean that CPAC sucks.
This is why it is not representative of the GOP at large but the Reagan Conservative wing.
never heard of an independent conservative?
Agreed. CPAC is where the Reagan Conservatives are.
They had record attendance, but according to some there, only 2400 voted in the Straw poll. Romney and Paul supposedly gypped the poll. As usual.
which is probably true
I never said CPAC sucks.. I said it was irrelevent there is a difference
