Does the sun revolve around the Earth? About one third of Russians appear to believe so, according to a survey published today. Thirty-two percent of Russians reject a sun-centered Solar system, four percent more than in 2007 when a similar survey was conducted (Snip) The survey also found 55 percent of Russians believe that radioactivity is a human invention. Twenty-nine percent believe humans lived in the era of dinosaurs. Women are more likely than men to believe scientific superstitions, the survey found.

Why is saying that the earth is the center of the universe any stupider than saying that, of all the billions upon billions of stars, our sun/star is the center of the universe?

I looked up what study was done in the US. it would seem 20% of Americans believe the sun revolves around the earth.

you have to wonder in these polls how many took the 50/50 chance and guessed correctly.

ORBITS

...you idiots! It does not "Revolve" around the Sun. It "Orbits" around the Sun. No wonder the Russians were confused.

I literally had one of our interns ask me Friday if atoms were real. He’d never seen a picture of one. Also asked if electron microscopes existed, and how they worked. This is a sophomore in computer science at a major University locally. I weep for our country...

This is a hit piece. There is no way 1/3 of Russians believe this.

Well at least its Russia this time, most of the time these stories are about the USA and made to look like Americans are a bunch of idiots. The fact is I imagine you would find that 1/3 of the population in any country are idiots. How do you think Obama got elected, he had the 33% idiot vote locked down and just had to fool another 17% of the thinking population.

Earth does revolve around the sun. Once a year. It rotates on its axis. Once a day.

I remember seeing a documentary about Russia some decades ago, and one segment was about Russian dairy farmers. Apparently one of the farmers had a cow who wasn’t producing enough milk. The farmer decided to punish the cow and cut the cow’s rations until the cow produced more milk. I bet that worked.

No. I’m not kidding at all. What difference does it make if thirty percent of Russians are wrong about the rotation of the sun? It is what it is and we can’t change it. It isn’t as if enough people are incorrect then the rotation of the sun and earth will suddenly change and we’ll all die. So who gives a damn?

As Algore would say, “That’s CONSENSUS!!!”

There’s more of them than there are of us so that means that even if it’s only a minority of Russians, it’s still more than Americans who reject their “science”...
