Possible Running Mates for Sarah Palin in 2012 Presidential Election
Yahoo! News Weekend Edition ^ | February 13, 2011 | William Browning

The race for the 2012 Republican nomination for President is becoming more concrete. GOP candidates made their pitches to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Feb. 10-12 and a straw poll of attendees was taken. The Washington Post reports Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the poll, with about 30 percent of the 3,742 ballots cast.

The poll doesn't say much as not one candidate received more votes than the other. Some of the biggest news from the weekend came from former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin and she didn't even attend the conference. Palin hired former Bob Dole campaigner Michael Glassner as her chief of staff, signaling a possible run for the White House.

Now the speculation and discourse about Palin's politics will continue and gradually build to a formal announcement running for president (or not). Who would be Palin's ideal running mate should she win the Republican nomination? Here are some suggestions based upon traditional party tickets and even some like-minded individuals who would serve Republicans well in 2012.

Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state. He could also galvanize more tea party voters and convince independents who lean to the right that Palin is a good idea. Paul will be 76 when the 2012 presidential election happens and then 80 when a potential first term is over. At least he'll only be vice president, but Paul will serve as a foil to Palin's youthful exuberance.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is an excellent choice for Palin....

No, but those same people managed to drive Bush’s approval numbers to the low 30’s and guaranteed the election of 0bama. Unfortunately sometimes good people get a raw deal. Obama will still be liked by 50% of the people. Whoever beats him will have to at least as personally popular.

These "let's slam Sarah some more" posts are really getting old.

I'm almost to the point of hoping she doesn't run - for the sake of her family and her safety.

Of course, if she doesn't, I hope those whose hobby it is to slam her daily have really enjoyed obama these past years, cause you're gonna get him again...for four more.

She is the only one in the field that would cause a landslide turnout of conservatives. We who follow this stuff daily know about all of the other 'possibles' but the general public just doesn't have the time to research every possible candidate.

It's going to come down to name recognition, and Sarah is the only one out of the possibles who has that right now.

When I think about her running, I'm ready to go vote right now...if she doesn't run, my enthusiasm is going to be a lot less...like voting for John McCain last time.

But there is no point in all of the bickering about it; pick an election bush/clinton...bush/gore....bush/kerry...obama/mccain; it doesn't matter, if we could go back dig out the posts from those we'd see that only the names have changed.

So Sarah, save yourself the hassle...but the day he announces that she is NOT running, watch the focus shift instantly to the next perceived "threat" to the RINO's and the dems. You will mostly likely see Sarah fade into oblivion.

But that doesn't mean YOUR candidate will rise to the top because of it...just sayin'

As a hugh Palin supporter (I’m series), I was excited about West. Do not think I am our to trash him, but read about him on wikipedia. There was an incident in Iraq. He had to retire. I hate even pointing it out because I loved his q and a at cpac and I’m not a concern troll btw. He may be great, I like him, but as a military guy the media will make a big deal that he is quick to anger or quick on the trigger (as in the incident mentioned). They’ll turn it into Abu Grahb (sp). Willing to be talked down about West, I like him.

But I agree that Pallin will have to have someone versed in foreign affairs if she runs...like Bolton.

Sorry, I’m suggesting she would make a good running mate. Solid conservative, experienced in both state and national politics. Oklahoma can be considered a western state, a southern state or a mid-western state.

As long as we’re talking about funny men with British accents, it’s a shame Mark Steyn isn’t eligible. (Toronto-born and still a Canadian citizen.) He’d be as funny as Joe Biden, except intentionally.

I have just come to see it as some things exacerbate some peoples' latent mental illness and let it go at that....

With the support of the Ron Paul Texas juggernaut, Debra Medina couldn’t get past Perry or Kay Bailey in the gubernatorial primaries.

Paul would drag down any ticket he is on in a state-wide Texas race...outside of maybe his own district.

I agree on both points about Palin and Rubio experience.

I wish people would leave My Senator Rubio alone,he has only been a Senator for a Month FGS. We would appreciate it if he be allowed to work for us Floridians. This insanity has been going on for the last eight Months. We worked very hard for Marco against CC,and it was an uphill battle. Let Marco and his supporters catch our breath. Defeating Senile Bill Nelson is our next battle.

What planet has this ignorant Obama voter been living on?

They still think he’ll be running against Tina Fey. When she lays him out in the first debate, they’ll be stunned.

I like Sara but, if she runs, Jesus Christ could be her running mate and it wouldn’t help.

You don't make much of an argument.

I think most people in Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida would vote for Palin/Christ over a Marxist and an idiot.

Bad example! Jesus would be crucified all over again, this time at the hands of the peace loving liberals.

Probably because more people hate Jesus Christ than they do Sarah Palin.

Actually, He’s going to be a consultant to the campaign. I think she considered offering Him the press-secretary slot, but decided against it, because He’d be whipping the gaggle all the time.

She would be a great Secy of Defense or State, but if she is President, it would be a daily fight with everything she says. To me she is a female John Bolten, and he is one of my most favorite people. He has Big Ones and so does Sarah. I just don’t think we want to spend so much time fighting her every word in the press.
