I suppose this is really routine now, but what is of interest to me is, once again, it seems like a lot of wild shooting.

The story doesn't tell us how many rounds were fired total. Maybe I'm off base here, but that seems like a lot of spray and pray shooting!

Per the story 26 of those shots were from an AR-15 ... a .223 can penetrate pretty well and this was in an apartment complex ... There was another deputy involved ,, no count of his rounds fired. The perp was dangerous but once again this sounds like a bad choice of locations to confront him ,, maybe wait for him to drive off to the grocery and surround him ??

First off, the felon fired at the police first from a Llama 40 cal.

The two officers fired a total of 40 rounds, 26 .223s from a Colt AR-15, and 14 40s from a Glock.

The shooting was outside the aparment units, in the open.

As far as I am concerned, it was a rightous shooting. I recall what a sheriff in another part of Florida said in response to why his deputies fired over 70 rounds at a “suspect” (guy had killed two officers earlier), “because that is all the bullets they had”.

Case Closed and Filed.

It would be interesting to know how many shots the other deputy fired, and how many of each actually hit the perp.

Sounds like a happy ending to me. No innocent civilians injured, no cops killed, bad guy dead, no extended court case. Cost to taxpayers - about $15 in ammo.

I'm an old squirrel hunter, the way I was taught it's one shot per critter and hit them in the head so you don't waste meat!

I don't like the idea of bullets flying downrange unless I know where they're going!

That doesn’t always work when the game you’re chasing is running away in the dark and shooting back at you.

It sounded like the cops had a bad plan, but at least they executed it poorly.

If they hit and kill or wound some dowm range say 200 yards, that is not a law enforcement officer. that is ok.No harm, no foul, so long as it a cop that does it. You just better not do it.
