On the surface, it sounds suspicious to me. May not be, but it sounds that way...

Either there’s much more to this story or some entity is going to receive a huge lawsuit.

Sounds more like a dumbwaiter mishap than an elevator mishap.

Reminds me of the “fat finger” that caused the dow drop of 1000 points. Nobody in the business believed it since that sort of thing happens all the time.

I think there is something missing. If this device was working properly and has resulted in no injuries, we may have someone who was disoriented, etc.

Still, doesn’t mean there can’t be a lawsuit. Heck, you might win, even if all you did was spill hot coffee on your genitals.

No mention of security cameras?

Maybe he got mugged and the perp threw him down the shaft to his death.

We’ve got these type of things at my job. Basically, a vertical conveyor with steps and handles every ten feet. We call ‘em, “Manlifts.”

They sure beat the hell outta having to run up and down stairs all day -easier on the knees.

These things just aren’t safe. I’ve often wondered how many people slip off - looks like OSHA will have a field day.

I remember seeing those things in parking garages when I was a kid in the ‘50s. I haven't seen them since, and probably for a good reason. The possibility of death or serious injury from a single misstep was obvious.

Those things were the only way to get around in the power plant where I worked unless you wanted to constantly walk up and down 20 stories of stairs

I think there is something missing. If this device was working properly and has resulted in no injuries, we may have someone who was disoriented, etc.

The device was marked "For Employees Only", and the story mentioned that the employees receive special training in how to operate it. I guess the man thought that if Employees used it, it would be OK for him to take a shortcut by using it, and not knowing how to operate it, used it improperly, and fell to his death. So very sad.
