Whoopi Goldberg criticizes 'New York Times' for not mentioning her Oscar. UPDATE: NYT responds

Whoopi Goldberg bitterly criticized The New York Times on Monday morning’s The View for not mentioning that she had won an Oscar in a Sunday piece about the paucity of black actors who have won Academy Awards.

Goldberg, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the 1990 film Ghost, said, “I am embarrassed to tell you it hurt me terribly.” She was referring to a piece titled “Hollywood’s Whiteout,” written by film critics Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott.

The piece lamented the lack of Oscar nominations and wins for black actors, noting that Denzel Washington and Halle Berry had won Oscars nine years ago.

“Real change seemed to have come to movies or at least the Academy, which had given statuettes to a total of seven black actors in the previous 73 years,” the authors wrote.

“After Mr. Washington and Ms. Berry, there would be Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker (both Best Actors), Morgan Freeman (Best Supporting Actor), Jennifer Hudson, and Mo’Nique (Best Supporting Actresses).”

UPDATE: THE NEW YORK TIMES RESPONDS

A spokesperson for The New York Times responded to EW:

“The error lies with those who are reading the story incorrectly. The point of the piece was not to name every black actor or actress who has been awarded an Oscar, it was to draw a comparison between the number who won prior to 2002 (the year Halle Berry and Denzel Washington won) and those who have won since.

And the story states very clearly that in 73 years, prior to 2002, only seven black actors/actresses won Oscars.”

Same reason they gave Denzel Washington an oscar, even though the movie he recieved it for was not even close to any of his best performances.

And to make matters worse, Denzel’s oscar was not just about affirmative action quotas because Training Day was a sub par movie by that years Oscar standards, but it was the hollywood equivalent of a “pity f@#$” because he been in the business for a long time and never won one. Everyone, including Denzel, knew this when he won it.

Affirmative action Oscars, just like the affirmative action Pulitzer MSNBC’s Gene Robinson is so proud of. There's another affirmative action columnist named Leonard Pitts, who writes like an angry high school kid playing the race card. Giving awards to undeserving people based on their race just denigrates (that's not a racist word, Leonard) the real achievements of people of that race.

Embarrassed??? She should be embarrassed for looking like a POS! This clown ever bathe????????????????? Her hair alone must have 10 pounds of dirt in it. Can you imagine the smell of this beast if you ever got close to her????? And that’s not even mentioning a raging yeast infection!!!!!! Ted Dason should have had his wiener cut off after dipping it in that rat hole!

What am I missing? Whoopi won in 1990. The NYT listed the black actors who won prior to 2002. They did not mention her. The NYT seems to feel that the report was accurate. I don’t see how it could be.

You're reading things backwards. All of the actors named won theirs after 2002 as was clearly stated in the article. Since Whoopi won hers before 2002, she's lumped in with the other unnamed recipients of the prior 73 years.

Her only decent role was as Guinan the bartender on Star Trek TNG. Other than that, she is useless.

I can’t figure out what the bigots at the New York Times are getting at. It sounds like they are suggesting new Oscar categories for Best Performance by an African-American Actor/Actress. The Times only increases their irrelevance to the National dialogue with each passing day. Only a matter of time before Pinch files the bankruptcy papers.

White guilt and stupidity are responsible for this Failure in Chief being in office. I feel nauseous when he is even referred to as “The President”. He may be POTUS but he is not MY President. He destroys the dignity of the office by being able to haul his lazy ass into the oval office at 10 am each day(Bush started at 7) and give fist bumps to Moochelle at night, laughing their arses off at night over their con of the American people. His staff also knows he’s a fraud and covers for him, not to mention the idiot MSM.

His name is Barry Soetoro and he is a former Community organizer from Chicago. He never accomplished one thing in this life of merit..and his education was handed to him because he was a foreign exchange student from Indonesia. Looks like he never completed a degree, however.

He was not born in the US. He is a Usurper and needs to be removed from office. But when I look at the tea leaves, right now it seems that the Invisible Man/Soros puppet just might be able to pull it off again in ‘12.
Why? Because noone has the balls to call him out for the fraud that he is. See my first sentence.

Maybe Whoopi and other black actors should start their own movie award show and only allow blacks to compete like they do every event that whites have to include them in. That way they will win more awards and it will mean as little as the oscars do now.

Never have I seen a race of people be so full of themselves and blame every other race for their being treated equally but not special. They demand equal treatment without wanting equal responsibility. They want inclusion without including others in areas they desire separation. Take for example the Black beauty contests, the Ebony awards, the Black Caucus, the numerous Black magazines that only cater to a black readership, the numerous Black only colleges and schools. Grants and scholarships only available to blacks.

It’s a demonstration of separate but equal for a protected class. The only other group of people who are starting to get this special treatment are gays.

Time to turn off the pity party for both.
