New Drilling Method Opens Vast U.S. Oil Fields
ap ^ | February 10, 2011

A new drilling technique is opening up vast fields of previously out-of-reach oil in the western United States, helping reverse a two-decade decline in domestic production of crude. Companies are investing billions of dollars to get at oil deposits scattered across North Dakota, Colorado, Texas and California. By 2015, oil executives and analysts say, the new fields could yield as much as 2 million barrels of oil a day -- more than the entire Gulf of Mexico produces now.

...

In the Bakken formation, production is rising so fast there is no space in pipelines to bring the oil to market. Instead, it is being transported to refineries by rail and truck... Unemployment in North Dakota has fallen to the lowest level in the nation...

The Bakken and the Eagle Ford are each expected to ultimately produce 4 billion barrels of oil. That would make them the fifth- and sixth-biggest oil fields ever discovered in the United States. The top four are Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, Spraberry Trend in West Texas, the East Texas Oilfield and the Kuparuk Field in Alaska.

RE: your “frackling” (hydraulic fracturing).

“This time last year, Eric Klinger, 19, made his living delivering pizzas. His friend, Matt Bartholomew, 20, worked in a factory that manufactured pharmaceutical products. Now, after a six-month course, they work for Halliburton, driving trucks, hauling supplies and doing some manual labor at natural gas drilling sites. They both started at salaries of between $45,000 and $55,00 a year — higher than the wages of most Pennsylvanians, according to U.S. census data. “Nothing wrong with that,” Klinger said with a laugh. Added Bartholomew: “The company that we’re in with, they’re saying 30 to 40 years they’ll be here. So...”

Kinda depends on if you’ve already enough (or too much) money and/or are currently satisfied with your afforded lifestyle. But if you’re trying to survive delivering pizzas, it’s probably “Drill, baby, drill, and frack, baby, frack!”

No doubt Obama made an urgent call to Ken Salazar at the Dept of the Interior to get crackin’ and to shut all of this foolishness down.

The greens have already attacked this method in the as fields enlisting all the usual suspects. Trout Unlimited, The Audubon
Society Sierra Club etal. EPA is considering halting all fracking until they can determine it is 100% safe. Who would have thought this might happen?

This new method will be stopped because:

a. It hurts the widduw chipmunks somehow;
b. It causes global warming;
c. One of the drills will suddenly start hemorrhaging oil all over the friggin’ place and nothing anyone can do will stop it;
d. Strike.

Who would have thought that drilling for oil would create jobs which would create economies.

Obama probably promised that oil to the Chinese.

I’ll be cautiously optimistic about this technology. I don’t expect Obama would go to North Dakota and sing its praises because it’s “oil” and not flatulence powered fans off the Massachusetts coast.

"We have redefined how to look for oil and gas," says Rehan Rashid, an analyst at FBR Capital Markets. "The implications are major for the nation."

The real answer is

e. George Soros decided to go long on oil futures, so needs to stop the flow.

My thoughts exactly. Obama will sneak in something to end this joy. Just like his recess appointment over Christmas were all shocking and corrupt and two of them ended the investigation of the NBP’s.

I bet that by the end of this year, the projects will be shut down by Obama and the EPA. Unless the GOP grows some balls and shuts the EPA off.

Sure they have. You betcha.
