Tell potential presidential contender and South Dakota's most nationally visible "pro-life," Republican elected official, U.S. Sen. John Thune, to speak out against the reckless "justifiable homicide" bill in his home state's legislature!

Have you heard the latest out of South Dakota? A right-wing state legislator, in an effort to advance the embryos-are-citizens-too movement and demolish a woman's right to choose, has introduced a bill which would make homicide "justifiable" if done to protect the life of an unborn child.

This is an unbelievably extreme attack on women's reproductive choice ... one that transcends the choice issue and crosses all lines of civility and decency. And so far, the most high-profile Republican elected official from South Dakota, U.S. Senator and potential presidential candidate John Thune has refused to comment on this disgusting law. That's unacceptable.

Tell Sen. John Thune that he MUST speak out against this dangerous and irresponsible bill which could easily be seen as encouraging violence toward reproductive health care providers.

South Dakota State Rep. Phil Jensen has backed off of the original bill language slightly and said that the new law would not apply to violence against doctors who perform abortions. But his recent statement that there are "crazies out there," and, "crazies do crazy things," appears to be nothing more than a craven attempt to avoid accountability if one of the "crazies" is encouraged by his bill to commit violence against a reproductive health care provider.

All GOP leaders have a responsibility to reject this completely over-the-line legislation. How can politicians claiming to be "pro-life" remain silent on a bill which would essentially condone of the murder of a human being?

Sign our petition to Sen. John Thune now demanding that he publicly renounce the "justifiable homicide" bill in his home state of South Dakota.

Our friend, and a member of PFAW Foundation's Young Elected Officials Network, South Dakota State Sen. Angie Buhl, is helping to lead on-the-ground efforts to counter this ugly bill. She'll be able to help keep the pressure on Sen. Thune on the state level and can deliver our petition signatures to Sen. Thune's state office.

Please take this action now, and then spread the word so more people know about this important issue and are speaking up. If we don't create a strong national public response to this bill in South Dakota, we'll be sure to see similar bills popping up in other states.
