Smearing Ron and Rand Paul
Slate ^ | February 18, 2011 9:31 AM | David Weigel

Another day, another vitriolic and personal David Horowitz attack on a conservative who doesn't meet his purity test. Today he amplifies Gary Bauer's call to action against a proposal from Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex., to cut foreign aid to Israel.

David Horowitz is not exactly a rightwing fundy himself, his criticism of Ron Paul seems to center on foreign aid to Israel.

How about we end all foreign aid/UN funding except for Israel.

Would Ron Paul vote for it?

Isolating yourself is not the answer. See WWI and WWII. And you read Slate. Enough said.

Out of all the various and sometimes fractious factions in the Republican coalition, nothing matches the invective flung at the libertarian wing by the neocon wing. To my knowledge, Ron Paul never has supported foreign aid to anyone. He views it as unconstitutional. This has gotten spun into antisemitism because it would mean ending aid to Israel. I support Israel myself, and don't begrudge aid sent by us to Israel. But, I understand completely where Paul is coming from on this. It's very unfair and has become libelous.

What conservative did he attack? As far as I can tell, this article only mentions the Pauls.

"I can't get my head around this obsession some folks have with Ron Paul."

"Support" somehow equals "obsession" in your mind?

"He is an isolationist nutcase who would burn the country to the ground as long as it stayed in budget."

I guess that makes George Washington an isolationist nutcase too sport. Read his farewell address sometime...

" The rest of the planet doesn't seem to play a role other than as eternal patsies for the”Jews”in his view."

The "rest of the planet" is not our burden according to the U.S. Constitution. Also, I can't seem to find a single anti-semetic remark attributed to Ron Paul.

"No way would I waste a vote on him."

Gee... what a shocker. I guess you will continue to cast your vote for whomever lesser of two evils both parties will throw up there for you to choose from in 2012. My children thank you for pissing away their future with your astounding intellectual prowess...

"Isolating yourself is not the answer. See WWI and WWII. And you read Slate. Enough said."

Come on... Ron Paul does not endorse "Isolation" as you imply it to be. And if you are so well read you should know this. Implying that WWI and WWII are the result of isolationism is absurd... In fact just the opposite can be argued. Japan used US steel against our troops. Germany had a huge helping hand from American companies while building up to war. Are you that ignorant of history or just hoping that I am? And I read EVERYTHING... Nuff said...

It’s hard to believe that people (Pauls) so talented are, in the end, imho, so stupid. Nations have always depended on those of similiar intent for support, information and military backing.
Over my lifetime I’ve watched the U.S. being supremely respected for winning WWII to being trashed for any action we take. I despise the Pauls, because in the end they’re limited in their ability to realize how the real world works.
I agree with their interpretation of the Fed and if they can fix that problem, more power to them. Their stupidity in geo-politics make that happening impossible.

RuPaul had blamed America for 9/11. He said it was actions we did that caused the event.

This bespeaks a profound ignorance of the ideology of a whole lot of people that are located over there.

If he want’s all foreign aid stopped from the pre-emminent power on earth, what do you call it? It’s called isolationism. Words haven’t worked very good, the last I looked.
I don’t want to get into a flame war with you. We just need to agree to disagree. But, I reiterate, I take this seriously and again I’d prefer to die next to a Israeli than eat a hamburger next to you. I’ll let you have the last word.

This is what should be cut.

• Oversight: $20 million, $13 million above th2009 Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Pandemic Flu was revised and “passed by the full committee.”Obama’s Not sure what the next step is, but based on the summary, it gives billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to countries and entities that support Sharia law and/or harbor, hide and support those who want to destroy the U.S. and our allies.

from e request, to expand oversight capacity of the State Department, USAID, and the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan to review programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq

• Lebanon: $74 million

• International Food Assistance: $500 million, $200 million above the request, for PL 480 international food assistance to alleviate suffering during the global economic crisis

• Refugee Assistance: $343 million, $50 million above the request, …including humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency programs in the West Bank and Gaza is limited to $119 million (Note: Gaza = Hamas)

• Disaster Assistance: $200 million to avert famines and provide life-saving assistance during natural disasters and for internally displaced people around the world, including Somalia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, the Middle East and South Asia

• Peacekeeping: $837 million for United Nations peacekeeping operations, including an expanded mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a new mission in Chad and the Central African Republic

• Department of Justice: $17 million, matching the request, for counter-terrorism activities and to provide training and assistance for the Iraqi criminal justice system

The mainstream media remains silent on this but the International News http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=22164
has now picked up the story — and then there is Obama’s $108 billion IMF bailout scheme http://michellemalkin.com/2009/05/13/obamas-100-billion-imf-bailout-scheme/ in addition to the Supplemental.

Obama has asked Congress http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2009/04/27/obama-asks-congress-to-allow-us-funds-to-terrorist-hamas-govt/
to let aid to Palestinians continue if Hamas backers are included in a new unity government, observers say.

The proposed change in U.S. law would be necessary because Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, is designated as a terrorist organization and therefore cannot receive U.S. aid. But power-sharing negotiations between Hamas and the rival Fatah faction, which controls the West Bank, may result in a unity Palestinian government that includes ministers backed by Hamas, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The White House sought the change as part of a bill authorizing $840 million for the Palestinian Authority as well as for rebuilding Gaza after this year’s 22-day Israeli military assault.

The Hamas proposal brought criticism from U.S. lawmakers, the Times said — one of whom, U.S. Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, R-Ill., said the move was akin to supporting a government that “only has a few Nazis in it.”

Geo politics eh??? Here's a real simple lesson for you from the "Pauls" in GEO POLITICS...

Let's see... The US backs Osama vs. Soviets... (Afghanistan for those of us who are two stupid to know which conflict I refer to...) And we get... What???? 9/11? Oooooeeeeeewwwww... so radical! Soooooooo outraaaaaageous!!!! Shame on Ron Paul for suggesting anything about our ridiculous foreign policy and it's effects!

Moving on... The US Backs Sadam vs. Iran... And we get...What???? take your pick! The the first Iraq "confrontation/war" or the second???? That's right kids... There were two of those wars! Oooops! Can't call it a "WAR"! Congress didn't vote for a "WAR" as the "CONSTITUTION" requires! How many lives lost??? Who's counting! But Hey! Never fear Ditto Heads! Congress voted to "FUND" these "conflicts"! Whooo Hooo! So that makes it AOK!

So sick of this B.S.

Ron Paul has it "right"... and the so called "conservatives" stick their freakin' heads in the sand... You twits loose the "Far Right" as we are so often referred to and you have nothing. If I continue to vote the lesser of two evils, my children have "NOTHING!"

And do you think for one second that I or any of Ron Paul’s supporters would not be in favor of cutting all of the outrageous aide packages that you just painstakingly listed? I am on board pal! Where do i sign up?! Oh wait... Ron Paul and maybe his son are probably the only politicians that are “crazy” enough (has enough balls) to propose these cuts! There goes that plan... :-(

As I recall, he observed that our presence and actions there had led to numerous attempted retaliations. That’s not blaming America, that’s simple cause and effect.

We have an interest in the Middle East and most deem it worthy of protecting, myself included. But, to put on blinders and pretend that we’re not viewed by certain elements in that same Middle East as an occupier waging war upon them is naive and silly. They retaliated. It’s not justifying the actions of the 9/11 terrorists or blaming America to make note of this, and that is what Ron Paul did.

He opposes most foreign intervention and always has, including Iraq, though he supported Afghanistan. It all boils down to constitutionality with him. The one was constitutional, the other was not, in his view. I understand completely where he’s coming from, even if I’m not as strict a constructionist as he clearly is.
