A savvy insider writes:
An out of state colleague asked me what it was like here. I thought maybe some of my other friends would like to know, too.
It is wild.
My personal feelings have been of incredulity and anger that our political process has been stopped by a mob. It is absolutely shocking.
For those of you curious about other viewpoints from the regular press reports, I recommend the MacIver Institute's website, and Media Trackers. org. and WisconsinEye. Also don't miss the coverage by Wisconsin Reporter.com Their tweets have been the best coverage of the events. Eyewitness history. #wisconsinreport
The tea party plans to rally in support of Governor Walker. I don't know what kind of numbers they can amass, but frankly, I doubt they can come close to busloads of union thugs being shipped in from all over the country. Last night one Senator told me they had been told to clear the Capitol because the new groups coming in overnight are filled with with people "who aren't afraid to be arrested" and the Administration could not guarantee the safety of the legislators and their staffs. In our Capitol.
On Thursday, legislators were advised to return to their offices and lock their doors. Mobs roamed the halls, banging on the glass of the doors, pounding on the walls. No one could move in the halls or enter or leave the building. The glass of the Supreme Court's entrance was broken. Legislators were genuinely afraid. Our elected representatives were afraid. In our Capitol.
A young female reporter trying to get into the Senate chamber struggled to get through the crowd. She arrived disheveled and upset because she had been roughed up as she tried to get through "Bitch-slapped" the mob told her. A senior senator was spat on. A senator and his female staffer struggled to get into the capitol. He was worried about his staffer because the crowd was grabbing at her and pushing her. University Police were two arms lengths away and did nothing. They, of course, are union.
Everyone has heard the story of the Democrats fleeing the state (Our slogan: Wisconsin; Illinois is beneath us). Everywhere are signs comparing Walker to Hosni Mubarak. What is their end game? Overturning an election and seizing our government?
Protesters spent the night on the floor of the Capitol. A friend of mine said the entire place smelled when she walked in on Friday morning. There was garbage everywhere. This is one of the most beautiful Capitol buildings in the country. The mob had no respect for the place, for what happens there, or for the citizens whose freedoms it represents.
On the other hand, one of the freshmen (Republican) members of the assembly tells me that the leggies are united and have bonded in a way that would never have been possible in other circumstances. On Thursday night, behind locked doors she said, they wept, held hands, and prayed, vowing unity. Another Senator says she thinks the tide has turned. Another (Repub) answered in response to my question; "This is kinda fun!"
The Governor stands firm. I understand that there are strategies in place for next steps which will shake up the stalemate....I have known him for at least 15 years, but he is different now. He is a man who has met his time and his place, and he seems to know it.

screw the commies. we need to defend what is right. pipe Rush in through the sound system, that’ll drive the moochers nuts
That was a nice piece of writing. Thanks for posting it.
All they have to do is hang tough. They are standing resolute. They are in my prayers.
Why couldn’t this have been our first black President?

Disgusted Allen West to Dems: Grow Up!

Yes! Go Tea Party Go Governor!
How about immediately and permanently closing down the government schools and placing the buildings and land for sale? Then, give every child a voucher for 1/3 the amount that would have been spent on them in their government school.
Let common citizens open dame schools or one room schools in the homes of neighbors. Let churches open schools. Let the vouchers be used there.
The proceeds from the sale of the government school land and buildings could fund the pensions of those teachers who have already retired or who have enough time in the system to have earned a retirement.
How long would that take? Hm? In a few days all K-12 education in the state could be privatized.

May want to capture this for the ‘record books’ (I don’t know how).
I’ve yet to see any poll out of Wisconsin on what the voters there think about this mob. It’s been 5 days now, and nothing in terms of public polling?
Hmm ... I think I know why.
.....and the garbage left on the floor under the rotunda. I sort of doubt the teachers did that. That’s the Superdome syndrome one might find committed by Jesse Jackson’s gang. Feral savages.
I’ve said all along the TP should stay home and send email and voice mail messages of support to the governor and the pub legislators. The rats look real bad for doing this. Sometimes it’s better to let your opponent shoot himself in the foot rather than give the appearance of being a provocateur.
I think the TP rally is a knee-jerk response. It also runs the risk of weakening our position if there’s a poor turnout. This was a dumb idea, imo.
When your opponent is losing, stay out of his way.
I really respect and admire Glenn Beck but we must fight this mob and this assault on Liberty.
That senator should have taken note of the officer’s name and filed a complaint immediately.
Bumping to try later cuz the first download didn’t work!
Not only that, but it gives the media and the opposition to claim that the pub legislators and the governor are just appeasing their base instead of acting in the best interests of the people of WI.
A little 3 hour rally provides a lot more potential for creating trouble for our side than it helps the legislators or the governor.
Looks to me like this mob was boozed up a bit
Freedom bump
That’s my congressman!! He’s fantastic!!
So far, it’s been a pretty calm protest. There isn’t a strong basis to call in the NG for crowd control. It would just make Walker look bad if he did that at this point. If the thugs escalate matters to the damage or violence level, then Walker will have no choice.
My take on Walker is that he’s quite a shrewd guy who plays his cards very close to the vest. He seems to have a lot of self control and does not allow himself to be provoked. He’s a cool customer.
If the Capitol has been invaded and occupied while legislators and staff are trapped in ther office then I’d say they have grounds.
I happen to agree with you. I’m thinking Gov. Walker does too. Let it be shown that this is not going to work and that they can briefly delay but not stop the will of the voting taxpayer. Walker comes off as the very cool head bringing unruly brats throwing tantrums to heel.
I don’t think anybody here is worried about riots per se. For some, thinking beyond immediate gratification often reaps big payoffs.

Maybe so. We also have Mitch Daniels. We have John Kasich. We’ve got this Martinez gal in NM. We have an abundance of riches when it comes to our governors. If our U.S. Senate lineup was half as good as our governors are, we’d be sitting pretty.

When you separate the corrupt criminals from their spoils, this is the natural result. Goon squads. Warfare.
I heard a nice storm's coming in. The unionites won't like that. It's not in their contract.
Just playin’ Devil’s Advocate here ...
I agree that the unions need to make financial concessions, but limiting collective bargaining is a bit controversial.
Especially since I saw a MSM report that SOME unions [the ones that supported Walker in the election] were bein’ exempted ...
Thats NOT right - either ALL the unions should be affected, or NONE ...
Thats the American Way ...
I was wondering the same thing. My friends in Wisconsin haven't seen any there either.
what I never could understand about teachers contracts is how they had the right to set the schedule....when to start, when to stop, holidays, etc...they are workers, not the chiefs...where the hell do they get off...
horrible to say but when the kids are not in school when they are supposed to be, bad things can happen....alcohol, drugs, etc....I hope I am wrong...
as I understand it, the unions get to bargain for wages and bennies...they wouldn’t be able to demand all workers join the union...they wouldn’t be able to say what days they will work and what days they won’t....now, they tell the school district WHEN they will start the school year and WHEN they will stop the school year...
“Whoever allowed those protestors to run amok in the Capitol and then spend the night, needs to be FIRED.”
I am in full agreement with you.
At this point, getting these protestors out of the Capitol would require a large number of National Guardsmen in full riot equipment. There will be violence.
And you know what?
That’s exactly what the protestors want. It fuels their resolve and give them extra ammunition (ex: a female AFCSME employee who’s 5 month pregnant, claiming that a couple of Guardsmen beat her and sprayed her with Mace - with “collaborating” statements from other Union a-holes who just “happened” to be standing nearby.
In short, this would for the labor movement a modern-day version of Genl Doug MacArthur and the Army breaking up the Bonus Army camp in DC back in the Depression.
I have a better way.
First of all, you lock ALL the bathrooms. Then you shut off the water. No water fountains. You lock the doors - but before you do, you tell everyone inside that no one else will be allowed to enter the building.
No food can be brought in...
No water will be brought in...
We’ll see how long these protestors keep goin once they realize there’s no access to food, water or bathrooms. I suspect that many will voluntarily leave. The hard-core ones that won’t will be arrested for tresspass.
Then again, this does drain union coffers.
There is no reason for the legislature to be locked in their offices. Just go home, and do a conference call.
Also, hire PIs to tract down the democrats, and drag them back.
I just heard that if the Rats dont return early next week then 5500 teachers will be fired due to budget cuts.
*******
Heard from where?
Here in Michigan there will be a rally Wednesday at Lansing. They are gonna be yelling KEEP 312. Refering to a binding arbitration law the GOP may throw out.
I asked one of them about layoffs and he answered as if well that was something else, they didn’t deal with too much, or some incoherent rational.
Well they better decide which they like best ....arbitration or keeping a job.
The unions love mob rule. That’s all that they know.
I hope and pray that the majority of both houses of the legislature hangs firm.
Everything I’ve seen...including a hastely put together, heavily attended counter protest today...tells me they will.

“Why couldnt this have been our first black President?”
He might still be.
I’ve been spat on. I was at the Capitol asking Senator Foolsgold for a lousy $30K in fuding for a military program for Wisconsin families during Operation Desert Storm. (Early 90’s)
I was in my Class A’s and some unwashed little college puke, about 19 years old, spit on me, hitting my skirt.
I turned and looked at him and pretty much gutted him with my stare. He turned and ran, LOL!
I would’ve chased him and beat him to a pulp, but I WAS in heels and a skirt and didn’t want to show up disheveled to my ‘audience’ with King Foolsgold, LOL!
(And if you don’t think dealing with HIM was a nauseating experience, you are as wrong as two boys...)
Hey there, looks like Madison is about to get some wonderful weather!
