A savvy insider writes:
An out of state colleague asked me what it was like here. I thought maybe some of my other friends would like to know, too.
It is wild.
My personal feelings have been of incredulity and anger that our political process has been stopped by a mob. It is absolutely shocking.
For those of you curious about other viewpoints from the regular press reports, I recommend the MacIver Institute's website, and Media Trackers. org. and WisconsinEye. Also don't miss the coverage by Wisconsin Reporter.com Their tweets have been the best coverage of the events. Eyewitness history. #wisconsinreport
The tea party plans to rally in support of Governor Walker. I don't know what kind of numbers they can amass, but frankly, I doubt they can come close to busloads of union thugs being shipped in from all over the country. Last night one Senator told me they had been told to clear the Capitol because the new groups coming in overnight are filled with with people "who aren't afraid to be arrested" and the Administration could not guarantee the safety of the legislators and their staffs. In our Capitol.
On Thursday, legislators were advised to return to their offices and lock their doors. Mobs roamed the halls, banging on the glass of the doors, pounding on the walls. No one could move in the halls or enter or leave the building. The glass of the Supreme Court's entrance was broken. Legislators were genuinely afraid. Our elected representatives were afraid. In our Capitol.
A young female reporter trying to get into the Senate chamber struggled to get through the crowd. She arrived disheveled and upset because she had been roughed up as she tried to get through "Bitch-slapped" the mob told her. A senior senator was spat on. A senator and his female staffer struggled to get into the capitol. He was worried about his staffer because the crowd was grabbing at her and pushing her. University Police were two arms lengths away and did nothing. They, of course, are union.
Everyone has heard the story of the Democrats fleeing the state (Our slogan: Wisconsin; Illinois is beneath us). Everywhere are signs comparing Walker to Hosni Mubarak. What is their end game? Overturning an election and seizing our government?
Protesters spent the night on the floor of the Capitol. A friend of mine said the entire place smelled when she walked in on Friday morning. There was garbage everywhere. This is one of the most beautiful Capitol buildings in the country. The mob had no respect for the place, for what happens there, or for the citizens whose freedoms it represents.
On the other hand, one of the freshmen (Republican) members of the assembly tells me that the leggies are united and have bonded in a way that would never have been possible in other circumstances. On Thursday night, behind locked doors she said, they wept, held hands, and prayed, vowing unity. Another Senator says she thinks the tide has turned. Another (Repub) answered in response to my question; "This is kinda fun!"
The Governor stands firm. I understand that there are strategies in place for next steps which will shake up the stalemate....I have known him for at least 15 years, but he is different now. He is a man who has met his time and his place, and he seems to know it.
That should have happened when the very first thug was able to breach the security of the Capitol building. They should not be allowed to enter the building, let alone sleep on the freaking floor, while legislaters and staff are huddled in fear inside locked offices!
Call out the National Guard, Governor! This is OUR house.
Let this run its course. If public opinion is swayed toward these “goons”, then so be it. I happen to think that rational and responsible taxpayers are watching this and becoming more disgusted by it as each day passes.
I invite Freepers every where to join me in sending a message to the Wisconsin Democratic Senator Committee:
KoryW. Kozloski, Executive Director at:
Or even a phone call at:
How much do I love this Governor of WI!
Then order all protesters out of the building and establish a clear corridors and approaches to/from the state buildings. Any who broach those corridors or attempt to force their way into the buildings should be arrested...and if a large enough crowd, handled in this manner: Ordered to disperse, followed by tear gas...then rubber bullets...then real bullets if necessary.
Yes, you CAN fire tear gas into a crowd of 30,000.
If they didn’t pose a security threat, I’d be inclined to agree with you. But I’m not for risking other folks’ lives to make a political point.
“Who is paying for the porta potties and who is playing the music? If they got rid of the porta potties maybe some of the crowd would leave.”
Nah...they’d just take a dump wherever. You think they have any class?
It sounds to me as if there are multiple firecode violations.
Might as well start the hoses before a problem breaks out. Especially in 29 degree weather.
"Release the hounds."
I see, so after 56 posts, a “savvy insider” doesn’t have the slightest evidence to back up his BS. Tea Party won the day, apparently FR has hand wringing sissies worried about.....errrrrr......riots.
That’s why I think that letting these goons do their thing is the proper response. Build up as much public disgust at Obama and his goons as possible. I’d advise all counter-protesters to evacuate the area. Soon enough, these angry goons will start turning on the people they are supposedly there to assist.
Lock them all up and make them clean the streets for a full year.
The out of staters need to be fined on the high end so sorros can pay.
Decertify all unions involved.
Filthy dam hippie offspring no doubt.
Has anybody heard from the legislators? It sounds like they may be pretty well trapped there. Do they need anything brought in or security escorts for staff in/out?
What is your problem? Do you know something that Sykes doesn't? Do you live in Wisconsin?
Every Capitol has means to get officials in and out. The State Police is in charge of that responsibility.
@robertcostaNRO: The anti-Walker forces gather in the capitol. Its loud. Really loud. Lots of drumming, chants http://yfrog.com/gzm65rj
The rally is over, the union goons scratched butt. A few hundred bussed in union goons had their ass handed to them on a plate. What the hell are you talking about?
It’s loud because the Tea Party is leaving now......the union thugs can now get back in front of the camera.....
Where you there? I trust Charlie Syke’s source more than I trust you.
Is the musician's union there too?
Fair enough. So what is happening after 10,000 patriots just left......please fill us in, with Mr. Syke's source....
There is only one way to beat communist union thugs.
You terrorize them.
Reagan beat the soviets by terrorizing them then bankrupting them. If that wasn’t a teachable moment, I don’t know what is.
Time to bring in Dog the bounty hunter to hunt down those lawmakers and settle this mess.
Quite frankly a cell phone video camera is a recording device. With that you can record yourself getting a Union beat down and receive a congratulatory yawn from law enforcement and the media.
A lotta good it did outside a voting location in Philadelphia, Nov '08.
Expect to see columns in the MSM decrying this.
The same MSM that pushed the DNC’s civilty theme.
Walker for President? I don’t know his stance on other issues, so I can’t definitively endorse him personally yet, but what do you think Freepers is it too early?? Did God give us a ‘hero’ just in time..?!..?
Is this to be the “new normal” when Democrats lose elections?
Rough up the winners and storm the statehouse?
Count on it. Its LIBERAL FASCISM. Not business as usual. These thugs need a royal sh_t kickin’.
For those of us on college campuses in the 1960s—we have seen it all before.
Revenge will be a dish best served cold.
Fire them all.
Tea-baggers vs. sand-baggers.. Watching the video waiting for it!
. . . . All this because unionized workers don't want to pay small co-payments for their medical insurance?
Check out # 60 , and # 62. Article, too.
This is a must read for every American concerned about this country’s future.
Live stream video of their rally
And they want to hold onto their collective bargaining rights, their union power thuggery. The Gov said they are free to join unions, but their will be no more requirements to join - and the state will not be collecting dues anymore, the union can collect them from who choses to join.
Thx - Best live stream. The other streams are of the thugs.
That’s what mobs do.
Oh, this stream has thugs in it - as far as I can see this Union rally is still going on.
Did they get a Permit?/sarc
Sure, it’s Alinskyism. I’ll bet Ayers, Dohrn, and Hillary are having flashbacks.
You’re right - maybe I could finally understand what they were saying. Geez, why doesn’t pro-Walker have more live feed?
Good point. It works for the VEEEEEEERYYYYY patient citizens. Cant say it works for ALL of us!
If there is no resistance from the silent, decent majority, the communists will have their way until they are stopped, eventually.
How far well let that go in many cities before we stop it is a very good question.
Exactly. A minority takes over and tells everyone else what to do. Just don’t let them get their hands on the money.
What mentality would one have to have to get on a Bus to ride to another state to protest a meager benefit cut in a teachers health insurance.
I just heard that if the Rats don’t return early next week then 5500 teachers will be fired due to budget cuts.
Good. I was waiting for this.
That’s what union thugs are - mobs. They’re Obama’s kind of people, play dirty thugs.
As a former WI resident now living in IL, I have to say thanks for taking oupr place as Idiot State of the Week. Don’t worry, we’ll be back - Pat Quinn is still Governor and they’re warming up to re-try Blago in another month or two...
But when your DemocRAT state senators crossed the Cheddar Curtain to avoid doing their jobs, that won you guys the title!
PS: You can have ‘em back. The t!tty bar says they’re all out of singles and can’t just hang out any longer
