Posted on 02/20/2011 3:21:28 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife
Listen up FReepers from all states. "High-Speed Rail" is a national problem (left to your children and grandchildren to support) not just a problem for Florida and a few other states. Liberals have all of us mapped out and in their sights.
This HUGE new government bureaucracy is getting ready to leave the station! And they will never pull the plug on this money pit. We will be told to subsidize it forever. Environmentalists, along with the msm and coordinating liberal groups, will have done their work and it will be "vital national emergency" to have and to keep rail vs cars.
A quick aside: How many unions will be interwoven into High-Speed Rail? Those same union bosses orchestrating the Madison march on the state capital (and their handmaidens hiding out in a resort in Illinois), who back each other up in solidarity in Wisconsin (Ohio) today will march in solidarity tomorrow over any plans to de-fund High-Speed Rail that WILL be coming to your state, YOU too will be asked to "contribute" your FAIR SHARE for the "health and prosperity" of the state and the country and Mother Earth.
Read this then watch the video linked below, that clearly explains the High-Speed Rail scam being shoved down Floridians throats (It's an information ammunition clip).
You easily can substitute other government programs in your mind as you listen and watch about the scam that will pick taxpayers pockets to pay vendors (big and small) who will buy politicians through campaign cash "kick-backs" and keep them in office as reliable votes for more funding when those pesky cost overruns appear and they never have a "profitable" bottom line.
And as the number of pockets being filled grows, the miles of track for this gravy train will grow. A Nationwide Network of High-Speed Rail Corridors are being set up to keep the fat cats and their politicians happy and prosperous on our confiscated dollars (and we're not talking ticket prices here). The rail lines shown in that link will "of course" have to be connected.
Instead of building a High-Speed Rail system, this scam has been designed as a reliable, high speed transfer of tax payer money into politically connected pockets (everyone will "enjoy" the China and Buffet tie-ins and go, Ah-ha! So that's it! Of course!"). And *think* how many JOBS they will tell us this will create....how High-Speed Rail is where the "working Americans" can find stable, reliable employment with good benefits -- more government workers!! (They just have to keep people unemployed and they will have to take these government and union jobs).
I guess when you have big players like China and Buffet (along with tens of thousands of others eye-balling that fat tit), you don't mind making up cartoon numbers and bottom lines to sell it to the suckers who will foot the bill for their profits. The video exposes the numbers and the lies.
Floridians should email this video to their congressman. The pol recipient needs to know that you have watched it with great alarm and anger and you have sent it to everyone in Florida you know and have asked them to send it to everyone they know, etc. [All FReepers need to distribute this information -- get it out to citizens and voters in all states.]
The video runs about 10 minutes but it packs a HUGE [[PUNCH]] because it explains things CLEARLY.
***((VIDEO)) New Tax Funded Ball and Chain ((VIDEO))***
And it isn't going to stop in Florida. The High-Speed Rail scam has planted seeds in many major cities. So click on the video link and watch what is set to happen in your state (It's probably already started with small inner city lines that keep expanding).
Politicians are watching tapped-out voters RISE UP IN ANGER.
They are nervous about informed citizens going to the polls and turning them out of office.
It's time to kick out any politician that backs High-Speed rail.
Here is one who already got the message.
Haridopolos flip-flops, sides with Gov. Rick Scott on rejecting rail dollars
Statists love rail travel. It limits where the citizen can go and they can check papers at both ends.
I loved it when Huckabee laid into Obamas re-peated reference that this and other programs were “investments”.
And when I bought ENRON stock I was told IT was an investment.
This is an “investment” in socialism!
I haven’t watched much of The Simpsons, but somehow I managed to watch the “Monorail” episode twice. I hear “high speed rail” and it brings back memories of Phil Hartman saying, “monorail...monorail...” set to The Music Man. If you haven’t seen it, it ended badly as a financial disaster. Perhaps it was prophetic.
On October 16, 2008, the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 (PRIIA) was enacted. Section 307(b)(j)(2) of the Act directed the Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration to "develop a long-range national rail plan consistent with approved State rail plans and the rail needs of the Nation as determined by the Secretary in order to promote an integrated, cohesive, efficient, and optimized national rail system for the movement of goods and people[.]" Subsection (j) also directed the Administrator to develop a Preliminary National Rail Plan.
Preliminary National Rail Plan (PNRP)
Delivered to Congress on October 16, 2009, the PNRP represents a springboard for development of the long-range NRP by illustrating the role that rail plays in meeting the strategic goals established by the Secretary of Transportation. The PNRP is an important first step in an ongoing process. The Preliminary Plan lays the groundwork for developing policies to improve the U.S. transportation system. Its goals are consistent with the goals of the U.S. Department of Transportations: to improve safety, to foster livable communities, to increase the economic competitiveness of the United States, and to promote sustainable transportation. PNRP
National Rail Plan (NRP)
The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010, enacted into law on December 16, 2009, established a date of September 15, 2010 for completion and delivery to Congress of the long-range National Rail Plan (NRP). FRA is conducting extensive outreach to include stakeholders in the development process for the NRP. Outreach events include webinars, conference calls, focus groups and meetings around the country. A public docket is also available for comments.
Report Fraud, Waste, and Abuse
"Its goals are consistent with the goals of the U.S. Department of Transportations: to improve safety, to foster livable communities, to increase the economic competitiveness of the United States, and to promote sustainable transportation."
And what republicans voted for this pile of sh**, bet it passed without a roll call.
"Sun Rail" is a HUGE link in this "ball and chain" High-Speed Rail national transportation network for Chinese goods (and government jobs) that will pour through the "new and improved" Panama Canal (that we don't own anymore).
If Gov Rick Scott can get help from the voters and make the FL Legislature stop this, opposition to this scam WILL spread to other states facing this same issue.
The VIDEO linked above (in the body of the thread) spells it out.
[excerpt] "Both of these are bad proposals. We just can't afford them," said Matthew Falconer, an activist who described SunRail as a rip-off. "If Rick Scott kills Sun Rail ... he will go from politician to folk hero."
Scott said little about SunRail on Friday. But as part of an executive order Scott signed Jan. 4 requiring that he approve any contract worth more than $1 million, $238 million in SunRail contracts are currently on hold. One, a $168 million contract to design, build and operate the system, missed a Feb. 10 deadline to maintain its guaranteed maximum price. It has been extended to later this month. Documents provided to the governor by the Department of Transportation on Jan. 13 also say this: "Delaying the execution of this contract will result in risk" that could "jeopardize the federal funding."
Over the years, the House repeatedly passed SunRail, but it died in the Senate, where Republican Paula Dockery killed it year after year by pointing out it cost too much money.
That all changed in December 2009, when Republican leaders said approving SunRail would help the state win billions in bullet train money. Partly based on those assurances, the rail legislation passed. Haridopolos voted for it and worked behind the scenes to ensure its passage.
Two of the other Republicans considering a U.S. Senate bid U.S. Rep. Connie Mack and former state Republican House leader Hasner lauded Scott's decision to reject rail money. Like Haridopolos, Hasner voted for the legislation in 2009. But now, he says, he supports Scott because "the money isn't there."
Everett Wilkinson, head of the South Florida Tea Party, said support of the bullet train is "a deal breaker. ... The tea party will actively target and make people aware of anyone who supports high-speed rail." [end excerpt]
Obama is getting desperate, he has to initiate the big development jobs that MUST involve unionized labor.
The unions across America are afraid that the political climate has indeed changed so far and fast that they are now in the spotlight. Just look at another thread about the SEIU organizing solidarity events all across America.
Its no wonder Obama is pushing for high speed rail, its one of the most heavily unionized sectors of industry in America.
Wasn’t there something involving railroads in “Atlas Shrugged?” Maybe a little more prophetic, but then I read it over 35 years ago, so I may be wrong. Funny though- my “Novel Class” teacher in high school, a PK, had me read it while everyone else in class read “The Fountainhead.” At the time I just figured it was because I was a sophomore in a senior class and maybe it was maybe less risque. I now know better.
Yes...and almost all of the 0bambi industrial/social wrecking is covered.
Seems to me 0bambi's teleprompter has been loaded with all of the "dark side" text from Atlas Shrugged.
“It limits where the citizen can go and they can check papers at both ends.”
You mean, exactly like air travel?
spokeshave: Yes...and almost all of the 0bambi industrial/social wrecking is covered.
Atlas Shrugged creeped me out. I read it during summer 2008 and could see so much of what I was reading in zerO’s campaign speeches.
Prophetic is the word.
Can you give me a link to how I can buy a ticket for a ride on GovernmentAir?
I was only referring to the “checking papers at both ends” part. Even though air travel isn’t technically “government”, the government does have control. Someone probably isn’t going anywhere if he refuses to let an official check papers at departure. If a government agent wanted to check someone’s papers upon arrival, I’m pretty sure a refusal would not be an option. When we traveled with cats last year, we were told we’d have to provided the vet paperwork upon arrival. If they can do it for cats, well...
The Obama administration has stripped NASA’s manned space program (killed lunar return and resource development) and funneled that money into the “new and improved” Green NASA that looks at Earth and studies global climate.
Our NASA centers across the country are laying off thousands of skilled workers.
But not to worry — The president has said the Tampa to Orlando rail line will need workers.
With Florida’s new High-Speed Rail link, Florida will be the Rail Coast not the Space Coast.
The Heritage Foundation has LOTS of good info on this high speed rail boondoggle. Heritage.org
If you watch the VIDEO you will understand that the “idea” of moving people” is a ploy, there is much more involved.
China needs workers busy and China needs to have a way to move these workers around their country en masse.
Think a few steps ahead.
Thanks for posting this. My Congressman, John Mica is really pushing for high-speed rail. He has a nearly perfect conservative voting record- except for this ONE issue. I will call his office this week and again ask if he is aware of all these connections.
It’s a “beautiful solution” and a way to control the work force.
High-Speed Rail union jobs are offered to unemployed Americans so as to build a network that will assist moving people into metro centers — where they can easily be transported via the same rail system they are building, the very rail system that will bankrupt free enterprise and grow government.
I have never been to Tampa but some years ago when the economy was very good I was able to afford a family vacation to Orlando, we have rented a vacation home there several times in january, a welcomed vacation from Alaska, not too warm to make us uncomfortable.
I really liked Orlando, but why on earth is their any kind of demand for people to whoosh between Tampa and Orlando?
I spent years in the Bay Area of San Jose and rode the BART trains a lot, but who is commuting? people who go to the theme parks don’t fly to Tampa, they go to Orlando.
I think its just a great big piece of smack candy from a street punk hoping to snare some addicts for future business. That is all Obama is doing, using big words of “investment” and “monorail” I mean its all about capturing and harvesting fantasy.
And he tells us he’s a Kennedy-Reagan clone.
It’s the transfer of “wealth” to government employees, with an eye toward everyone being a government employee and the Obamas of the world appropriating the money according to our needs ala Castro’s Cuba.
It is unsustainable. It cripples the economy by destroying free enterprise and initiative, and enslaves people. But may limp along for 50 years or more.
And they DON’T have free health care and education. They have a miserable, failed existence that they can not escape.
Orlando is spread out for miles and miles north and south.
I have a business associate who got fed up with Long Island New york and moved his business and manufacturing plant to Orlando. Almost all of his employees came along.
I have another friend who runs a fairly large regional distribution operation there. They moved from Georgia
There is more there than theme parks
Thank you SE Mom.
“ihre papeiren, bitte”
and with full body scans or dope gropes added
Thanks for the info.
I wonder how Mica's air transpo donors are gonna feel about his support for the high speed rail boondoggle?
I don’t argue against security concerns. Gone too far, probably. Incompetently performed, no argument. Airports can choose to not use the TSA. More should do so.
However, rail as imagined by the current incarnation of statists, would be government built, government run. That’s worked out well for us in the past. The current occupant of the White House doesn’t take much shine to the quaint notions of liberty and freedom.
A low gas price is freedom to travel. I don’t think he likes that given what he’s doing to the gulf. Rail would be just another lever for government to squeeze liberty out of the commons.
Who’s proposing this? The government or free enterprise? Would government rail “compete” with air travel?
The National Transportation and Safety Administration controls our movement and PETA controls the TSA so where in the hell does that leave any of us?
Alaska senators upset over TSA's Iditarod decision "ANCHORAGE, Alaska Alaska's two U.S. senators are upset over the Transportation Security Administration's decision to cancel plans under pressure from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to recruit potential employees with a publicity campaign at the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. ......."
AND there is the WEATHER BUG that Homeland Security has set up.
I am actually thinking of leaving Alaska on my motorcycle and riding down to Florida next winter, I have been laid off every year for the last four years all winter.
I don’t expect a better paying job, I just want continuous productivity. In Alaska its great during the summer but not working all winter is killing me because I do absolutely nothing.
I could be an on call snow plow driver, or drive a school bus but the competition is too fierce.
Interesting breakdown of contributions.
I call his office regularly- normally to thank him for a particular vote or to be sure they’re aware of this or that..but honestly, shamefully really, I’ve not paid as close attention to this damned high-speed rail because I ASSUMED (!) it would never get this far. I’ll spend some more time researching and be ready with my facts when I call on Tuesday.
Not sure exactly why our new governor said NO to the Fed $ this week- but it’s the right thing to do and he’s getting hell for it- lots of “recall the governor” chatter...
He’s a good guy- but it looks as though he’s fallen into a trap and he’s lost his nerve.
The video is well done. But you do not have to watch it to know that High Speed Rail is a boondogle. More government, useless enterprise, borrowed money, endless payments by taxpayers.
"...Nelson's former colleague, LeMieux, stood with the Democrat in calling for high-speed rail money. And he didn't back down this week. LeMieux said he's against "out-of-control spending" but it's too late to stop the rail money anyway..." Source
[Feb 3, 2011] "...."I'm surely thinking about it," said LeMieux when asked directly about his plans to run for Senate in 2012, Florida Capital News reported.
Florida Sen. Bill Nelson is up for re-election in 2012 and the GOP is eager to pick off the two-term Democrat they view as highly vulnerable.
LeMieux was appointed to the Senate in 2009 by then-Gov. Charlie Crist to serve the remainder of former Sen. Mel Martinez's term. There has been widespread speculation ever since in Washington and the Sunshine State that LeMieux a former Crist chief of staff would challenge Nelson.
The former senator said he would make a decision "pretty soon," the news service reported.] Source
I live in NYS, so usually when I call a pol I get a demand to know which media outlet I’m with and then get hung up on. Our new Critter’s a good egg, though, and I’m hoping he stays that way. If we don’t get gerrymandered out of existence.
Maybe you don't but it gives specific ammunition to people -- pointers on how they can attack these plans in their states -- triggers, so they will recognize the signs, so they will know that it is IMPORTANT to send it around to people who aren't as savvy as you.
WOW- that would be infuriating. I’ve had conversations with Mica’s office for over 30 minutes and never once have they been rude or disinterested...in fact they OFTEN ask me questions about why I think this or that- not in a nasty way- but actually interested.
Good luck with your new guy!
And AMTRAK's still losing money.
A good piece worth reading.
......President Obama can't stop mentioning him. Only this week, the president justified his own failure to tackle entitlements in his dud of a 2012 budget by saying that "the chairman of the House Republican budgeteers didn't sign on" to the final report of Mr. Obama's deficit commission.
What are they all so afraid of?
"Did he really say that?" asks Mr. Ryan about the president, sitting in his House office this week after another day of the hearings he now runs as chairman of the House Budget Committee. "I'm actually flattered." Perhaps they're worried, he says, "because we put out more than just bromides and platitudes. We put out specifics."
He certainly has done that, most famously with his "Road Map" that is the full monty of conservative tax and entitlement reform. Mr. Ryan knows it won't pass, not even in the current GOP House, but he drew it up in 2009 to start a debate and show that a future of limited government was still possible. He adds that he opposed the Obama deficit commission report because it failed to do anything serious about health-care entitlements, and he proposed an alternative that the commission rejected. Mr. Obama has never proposed his alternative.......
......Mr. Obama dropped his budget this week that does almost nothing about everything. To call it a punt is unfair to the game of football. That abdication makes Mr. Ryan, by dint of his expertise and his influence with other Republicans, the most important fiscal voice in Washington. As supply-siders used to sayand Mr. Ryan came of political age as a protege of Jack KempMr. Ryan is now the man on the margin. He says he's determined not to waste the opportunity, notwithstanding the huge political risks.
What's the White House political calculation behind its budget? "The fiscal strategy is to hang on to all the government we've grown, and hopefully rhetoric will get us through the moment. It strikes me as a posture or position to keep the gains of the last two years in placethe bump up in discretionary spending, the creation of these new entitlementsto lock in their gains, bank their wins, and then hang on through the rest of this year. And they believe they have the flourishing rhetorical skills to navigate the politics in the meantime," Mr. Ryan says. ......
....Paradoxically, however, he says the president's budget has helped Republicans. By failing to lead with such a loud thud, Mr. Obama has helped the cause of reformers within the House GOP. Some in the leadership had been wary of taking on entitlement reformthat's Medicaid, Medicare and perhaps Social Securitybut this week tipped them over the edge.
"We have a lot of fiscal conservatives here. We have a determined caucus. . . . That is very helpful. We have a fiscal reality that is obvious and we have a president who is failing to lead. We feel duty bound to lead ourselves," he says.
Along with conference chairman Kevin McCarthy, Mr. Ryan has been doing an internal road show for all 87 House freshmen and many senior members on the looming debt and entitlement crackup, three sessions a week, six or eight members at a time, 10 minutes of PowerPoint, 50 minutes of questions and "listening."
He rolls out a chart comparing the debt trajectory under Mr. Obama's fiscal 2010 budget (a line shooting almost straight up) and the GOP alternative he offered last year (a relatively flat line sending it back down from its Obama peaks). "That's the chart that always gets them," he says. Reforming Medicaid alone won't get the deficit and debt on a downward path, he says. You have to tackle Medicare too. .......
High speed rail is needed to connect the UN’s sustainable communities.
To call it a punt is unfair to the game of football.
Amen to that, BTW :)
Liberals love rail travel. There’s a certain romance that they feel when they reminisce about those days in Europe when their Jewish friends were efficiently moved about on rail. I’m sure that they’d like to move conservatives around America in a similar manner.
It’s up to us voters to fill the viewing stands and let those in office know we’re cheering (email, letters, phone calls, editorials, OpEds, marches, office visits) them on!!
Thank you for the LINK.
Here’s another walk on the dark side.
