Wis. Democrat says return to Capitol unlikely
Associated Press - February 20, 2011 11:45 AM ET

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Wisconsin senator says he does not believe Senate Democrats will return to work unless Gov. Scott Walker shows a willingness to negotiate on his plan to effectively eliminate union rights for most public employees.

Sen. Jon Erpenbach of Middleton said Sunday he remains at a Chicago hotel. He says Senate Democrats scattered outside of Wisconsin had a conference call Saturday night and remain united in their tactic to try to slow down the bill.

**SNIP**

He says unions agreed to make concessions on health care and pension benefits and now it's time for Walker to back off his plan to take away their ability to collectively bargain for benefits and working conditions.

While they’re enjoying their stay at a resort in a neighboring state, 12,000 public employees that the legislators profess to care about will suffer layoffs due to the budget crisis that the runaway senators helped create.

Cancel their govt. issued credit cards for starters. Allow for an emergency vote to replace them.

End of problem.

My email to the Winconsin Flea Circus FLEE CAUCUS...

TO: Sen.Carpenter@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Cullen@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Coggs@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Erpenbach@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Hansen@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Holperin@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Jauch@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Larson@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Lassa@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Lassa@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Risser@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Taylor@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Miller@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Vinehout@legis.wisconsin.gov; Sen.Wirch@legis.wisconsin.gov

To the Wisconsin fourteen;

In my 65 years on this planet, I have seen a lot of losers elected to various offices, from local to National. As a young democrat - until Jimmy Carter came along, that is - I looked at our leaders with respect and reverence as the people who represent me in this great country. People who would do their job, no matter what, because they took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, both state and National.

But at some point, democrats thought they saw a better way to do things; dems adopted things I learned about as traits of socialists and communist when I was living through the Cold War years. Somehow - all of a sudden - America wasn't good enough for these people who were migrating to the left. However, hidden under their ideals and brave talk was the same ol, same ol'...the simple, lecherous quest for power.

You fourteen have epitomized that bit of history in choosing to cash in what little integrity you possess and any remaining respect by acting not like fourteen Senators, but like Fourteen-year-old kids not getting their way. You were voted into the minority in November, but instead of keeping your heads high and representing the people it integrity and leadership, you chose to tuck your tails and run. You're bullies when you're in power, and cowards when you're not.

Probably using your State credit card, taxpayer money, you chose to run and hide, even with the prospect that if you don't return for the vote on the Budget bill, the Governor will have no choice but to have mass layoffs (12,000 according to a story by the AP) of your union friends because he is going to balance the budget, one way or another. So even though you think you are fighting the "brave fight", you are really just hiding and handing your supporters over to the unemployment office to save losing a few concessions that the rest of the country pays in stride. How stupid is that?

National elections of people like Al Franken shows us all that intelligence is really not a prerequisite to getting elected to office, and your little runaway stunt is right up there for the "Al Franken Hall Of Fame" award.

But there will be more elections, and while I realize those of you from majority democrat districts couldn't lose if you molested a 2-year-old - liberal scruples being what they are - some of you will still lose, and all of you will be loathed by a good number of people, but all of you will be remembered, in a bad way, of course.

For those of you who see your little game as a "tactic"...being a coward is never a tactic; you'll be remembered as those who ran away when adversity knocked. You're the moral equivalent to children who hold their breath until they get their way.

You all actually belong in the hall of SHAME for your little stunt; there is one thing about "swing voters", they actually look at what you do and say based on its merit, and they're watching this little game very closely. The hard left will always vote for you as they are like union people - with whom merit doesn't count, only blind party loyalty based on how many free handouts you vote in.

You were voted into the minority in the last election, and it's going to be even worse for you in 2012. This action has pretty much sealed your fate as democrats all over the country are figuring out the new left and switching sides. Paraphrasing an old saying, "You made your beds, now you have to lie in them.".

We'll be over here on the right, laughing our asses off at you. Personally I'd like to see all of you booted out of office in disgrace, and people are right now investigating the possibilities of such actions. But because we have such a great country and state, you'll probably skate by, at least until 2012.

You can run, but you can't hide.

Sincerely,

On Monday Governor Walker should issue an executive order closing a dozen of the state agencies IMMEDIATELY and permanently. And have the police there to prevent vandalism. Then those ex-employees can go to Illinois on vacation.

They should be charged with conspiracy to defraud the state of Wisconsin. Warrants should be issued for their arrest. Rewards for their return should be offered and let the bounty hunters go after them.

I may be wrong, but I understand the WI senate and assembly need a quarum to vote on fiscal legislation, but only a simple majority for other legislation. The WI senate has stated it will be back in session tuesday to address other matters.

If so, why can’t they strip out the collective bargaining portion of the contested legislation and vote on it as a stand-alone bill? Would it qualify as a non fiscal bill?

Right on!

Then send out the State Police to drag them back and chain them to their desks. If you feel charitable, allow them to change into a pair of Depends.

Sounds to me like they’ve resigned their positions.

Is there a law against obstructing the Legislature like there are laws against obstruction of Congress? Seems to me these guys have either forfeited their jobs or they are engaging in criminal activity.

“Mon - Voter ID law
Tuesday - Right to Work ammendment
Wednesday - Concealed Carry bill
Thursday - tough immigration bill
Friday - pro-life ammendment”

With a majority, they should be doing this anyway.

When I was a kid the the same thing happened here in Texas. A group of Dems. head for the hills.

I knew several of them because I was a very good friends (wink wink, nod nod) with the daughter of one of these clowns while I was in high school. I used to go over to her house a lot. Most weekends the Democrats were having parties at her dads house. They were the biggest bunch of drunks I have ever been around. They would all get blasted and boast about how they were getting rich doing this or that. They were a gang of thieves. And a bit kinky if I believe some of the stories about what went on after a night of partying and swimming in the pool.

At the time I was 17 and I was mainly impressed by them because they did not care of we drank along with them. The one senators daughter I was seeing was pretty hot. The liberal puke would have had a cow if he knew what I was up to with her. Decorum does not permit and more info. on that:)

I believe that people that become Democrats are mentally challenged. They are simply not wired right. Which is why the join up with queers and other misfit retards. They are all birds of a feather. The weirder the better.

They are pretty lazy people too. which is why they gravitate to unions. I mean really, who wants to work when you can get a lot of money for doing little or nothing.

After the last election cycle I had some savvy political heads I know upset that Reid and others were not thrown out. It was as if things did not go all that well. My response to that was that it was a huge victory in the House but maybe more importantly the absolutely amazing sea change in local and state races. I said this is where we are going to see big things happen. From the bottom up. And that is what is happening in Wisconsin and other places. Fueled by the Tea Party the local parasites that I describe above are going to have their sweet deals interrupted. It is so cool to see the union thugs get theirs. This is going to expand and more and more locals who now include smart people from the Tea Party are going to take the money back. We hear about taking the country back and whatnot but it is the money that counts. It will be fun to watch!

Yes, but it will force the Dems hand.

Stay away if you like, but we’re getting on with the business of the State.

Spread that strategy far and wide. It is brilliant.

Around 1950, the USSR left the UN in a huff about something. The US promptly passed a resolution having the UN defend South Korea from the commies. When the Soviets came back, they couldn't do anything about it, because the US had a veto. As a result, the Korean war was a UN operation.

This is a similar situation.

I'm sure there are laws regarding removal of corrupt elected officials, like impeachment.

They should just start impeachment proceedings against all 14.

It certainly would. No state monies are involved at all.

What remains to be seen (among other things) is if the WI Senate has the guts to do EXACTLY as you indicate. A very solid and doable idea. Well said.

From your post, I draw 2 conclusions:

It only takes a majority to have a quorum under the state constitution. The state senate has probably passed its own rule that a quorum for budget matters requires 20 out of 33. The Senate is the judge of its own rules and may pass its own rules. The Senate could therefore change its quorum rule on budget matters with a majority present.

On expulsion, that would not be possible without 2/3 vote of all the members, not just those present. With 33 members, that would require 22 votes, so it's not in the cards for now. However, if Wisconsin has a recall statute, they ought to gear it up.
