I think this shows the limits of the central govt’s power compared to the provincial govt. It’s been whipped into a national sovereignty issue. CIA etc. Remember what happened to the prov. leader who was just mentioning curtailing the blasphemy laws—killed by his bodyguard. Going against the rabid street can get you killed. Right now the rabid street (nationalistic and islamicist combined) will not permit him to be released. We could PNG the entire Paki entourage, it won’t get him out. It’s past that. He will probably be lynched and ripped to shreds. The blood is up for him.

I would hate to think that one of our own would be sacrificed for political expediency. Having trod those streets lo these many years, I was always felt somewhat reassured that our guys would come for me should the worst happen. Then Buckley was lifted, and I must say I was glad to be out of that theater.
