York, PA - First Lt. Daren Hidalgo, a former Dallastown resident, was killed Sunday near Mama Kiriz, Afghanistan, while conducting combat operations, according to the website of the 2nd Cavalry Association and Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations. He was assigned to G Company, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Rose Barracks, Germany. Hidalgo was a 2005 graduate of Dallastown Area High School, according to newspaper archives, and received a U.S. Military Academy appointment to West Point. Phil Bayliss said he and Hidalgo were best friends from the time Hidalgo moved to the York area when they were in fifth grade. Bayliss, now of Philadelphia, graduated with Hidalgo in 2005. He spoke with his friend's mother on Monday, he said, and they couldn't remember them having any serious moments. "Everyone was always joking around with him," Bayliss said. "He had the best smile you could ever imagine . . . infectious and contagious." Sometimes, it surprised people who didn't know him to find out he was in the military, Bayliss said. "You think of someone serious and stern," Bayliss said. Hidalgo was "just the opposite." Hidalgo was following in his family's footsteps by entering the military, Bayliss said, noting his friend was proud to go to West Point. Bayliss thinks most people will remember "the happy-go-lucky kid who would do absolutely anything ... whether a friend or someone you just met." Hidalgo is the 14th soldier lost during the regiment's tour in Afghanistan, said Chris Golden, executive director of the association. The association received notice from the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, he said, because the association represents the Germany-based regiment in the U.S.

For those interested he was a Ranger School Graduate.
Also of note is that he was the 14th soldier killed in his regiment during this tour and that you won't hear these stories in the national media anymore because it's time to get Zero elected.
Please pray for him and his family.
You have something there = when G.W. was in Office we were getting weekly reports on casualties. Now with Hussein Obama in charge the weekly casualty reports have suddenly disappeared.
What a tragedy, such a fine young man.
Guess its just not important to Hussein...or the Libs.

What a difference Bush was with the troops and THEY with him!
God Bless him and his family. Another Pennsylvanian gives his all.
