Who Attacked Lara Logan, and Why?
National Review ^ | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 02/22/2011 8:21:03 AM PST by ventanax5

For the world’s billion-plus Sunni Muslims, al-Azhar University in Cairo is the center of the theological universe, its faculty and scholars the most authoritative voice on the meaning of Islam. It is not very far from Tahrir Square, ground zero of Egypt’s revolution.

It was in Tahrir Square last Friday that the Muslim Brotherhood began shunting aside other opposition leaders, including Google executive Wael Ghonim. The million Muslims jamming the square hadn’t turned out to hear a good corporate citizen of the Left. In this nation, where a strong majority of the population desires the implementation of sharia, Islam’s legal and political system, the throng turned out to hear and hail Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, the Brotherhood’s top adviser — who, with his al-Azhar doctorate in Islamic jurisprudence, is sharia personified.

Tahrir Square is also the place where, in the frenzy after Hosni Mubarak’s fall, CBS news correspondent Lara Logan was seized and subjected to a savage sexual assault by an Egyptian gang. Coverage of the attack has been muted. There have been testimonials to Ms. Logan’s courage, and one anti-American leftist lost his comfortable fellowship at NYU Law School for failing to conceal his glee over the atrocity. We have heard much about the attack, but have heard next to nothing about the attackers. You are just supposed to assume it was a “mob” — the sort of thing that could have happened in any setting where raw emotion erupts, say, Wisconsin’s capitol.

Except it doesn’t happen in Madison. It happens in Egypt. It happened in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, in the riots that led to Suharto’s fall — as Sharon Lapkin recounts, human-rights groups interviewed more than 100 women who had been captured and gang raped, including many Chinese women,

I am shocked and saddened at the gang rape of Lara Logan. And I am shocked and saddened that it hasn’t become a bigger story.

It’s quite possible the powers that be in the MSM minimized this story, because it casts Islam in a bad light.

In the muslim world its because they’re rabid muslims.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t put similar behavior past the radical left in this country. More than a few times we’ve heard the left suggest that conservative women need to be raped into submission.

Another reason why it's imperative that we are allowed to own firearms.

The comments at the NY Post website are much more derogatory about her than anything allowed here on FR. Suffice it to say she apparently dressed inappropriately for the Muslim sensitivity and the crowd of radicals took seriously about Islam's words about how to treat non-Muslim women. She was apparently clueless about how to dress and paid the price, as regrettable as it was.

Female genital mutilation is rampant in the Muslim world and scripturally based.

I have heard numerous muslim apologists claim that this is merely a cultural deal, not islamic. I wonder what the truth is.

A very eloquent piece by the great Andy McCarthy.
I have been thinking about Lara Logan ever since this happened, and have been wondering whether she’ll be doubly raped: the details of the story have indeed been left very vague, but from everything I’ve heard, it was a gang rape
carried out over a LONG period of time, and involving as many as EIGHTY ‘men’, OBVIOUSLY Radical Muslims. The hush-hush treatment of the story both points to the ongoing practice of turning away from the realities of Radical Islam, and possibly the ‘embarrasment’ that might accrue to Logan’s employer, CBS, who might now see her ironically as
someone whose career is functionally OVER, because she’s been DESPOILED. In other words, it may not be entirely up to HER,whether she wants to continue to be a Journalist, even though that doesn’t preclude someone else, like FOX, from offering her a job.
The kind of grotesque humiliation she experienced (as a journalist just out to cover a story) as far as I know, is unprecedented in my lifetime-—being pushed around, and roughed up is one thing-—gang-rape is quite another.
She will have to be quite a remarkable woman to come back from this, and the MSM will have to do their part in facing facts, whether or not “they want her back”.
Hearing all these statistics about how Sharia-ready the Egyptian population is has made me VERY troubled—I wasn’t exactly feeling all warm and gooey over the prospects of ‘a democratic revolution’, but this one incident, and the newly revealed stats have convinced me I was probably wrong about the potential of Egypt NOT to fall to Radical Islam. Not all Egyptians are like this, regardless of the statistics: I don’t believe the “Youth Movement” is ready to give up, though most of them may have nowhere to migrate to except the USA, if Egypt falls.
And NO WONDER this Administration has been making noises about how they fear the Muslim Brotherhood might take over:
if that happens it will prove to be the crowning glory of the worst and most reckless President we’ve ever seen:
Mubarak, even though he was the rottenest of rotten kleptocrats, may be proven right when he said that Obama had no idea what he was unleashing when they demanded he step down.

Right ...

Suppose she had been dressed exactly the same way, while reporting on a Tea Party rally or protest.

Do you suppose that the Tea Party folk would have raped her?

See my #10.
There may be more considerations from the MSM than showing “Islam in a bad light”.

Dumb question.
Who? Muslims.
Why? Because they could.

Almost as heinous as the sexual assaults (from the article):

Rape has become so prevalent, and so identifiably a Muslim scourge, that embarrassed and hyper–politically correct Swedish authorities have discouraged police in cities such as heavily Muslim Malmo from collecting data that point to Islam as the common denominator in rape reports.

I read in another piece posted here yesterday that women all over Egypt are groped whether they are in the hideous garb or not.

These animals need to be exterminated.

In reading the piece one thing stood out at me that I never knew before about Islam....that Mohammed himself took a Jewish woman as his concubine and also at that time many Islamic men raped and produced children from the other Jewish women taken captive. How ironic it is that Jewish blood runs through the veins of some of the very people who..declare that Jews are subhuman.

Do they not know their own history? I wonder how many of them really do have Jewish grandmothers. Such an ignorant bunch of people...

We probably will never know the WHO of this story.

The WHY is evident every minute of every day & many countries in the world have chosen to shut their eyes to the dangers posed by Islam.

Some of us are NOT fooled, however.

It happens in the US as well, for example the NYC Central Park "wilding" incident. I would think that female Fox reporters would have more sense than to place themselves in a potentially hostile mob scene.
