ST. PETERSBURG - A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday night in the slaying of a St. Petersburg police officer, ending a massive, daylong manhunt.

Accompanied by his parents, Nicholas Lindsey turned himself in about 6 p.m. He was arrested on a first-degree murder charge after confessing in the fatal shooting of Officer David Crawford, police said.

The Pinellas County student was transported to the county jail just after 11:30 p.m.

Authorities said Lindsey has prior arrests, but none involving violence.

St. Pete is one of the most liberal communities in the US. This perp will probably get two years cause he’s “just a child.”

From the story’s description, it sounds like the perp was probably looking to do an B&E or some other form or burglary when the officer arrived. I would not be surprised if the ‘prior arrests’ on his record were of that nature.

Either way, what a waste. 16 years old and he’s taken a life.

“the community needed to continue doing more to support programs for youth so they don’t lose their way.”

Words fail. How many of us managed to avoid shooting police without being involved in a community program?

I’ll bet this young man was part of various community programs during his short life, anyway.

It makes NO difference.

re: parents turned him in. There was a $100,000 reward.

I hadn't even thought of that aspect. I wonder if they're strings attached that would make it difficult for them to qualify.

What a sad, sad story. Again, I am at a loss for words. My mind just reels at the thought of a 16-year-old kid shooting and killing a cop. I fear this is what we're turning out in lots of our cities across the country.

All I can do is shake my head and pray for the those involved.

I haven't seen his home address yet but the shooting occurred in, or on the edge of, a very bad part of St. Pete. It's been the site of riots over the years, the last one when officers shot and killed a black man who tried to run them down with his vehicle. There is an organization in the area that thrives on racial unrest. I think they call themselves the “Ohuru’s” or something like that. Not sure of the spelling, but it's pronounced Oh-who-roos with the accent on the “who”.

Here's a brief bit about the situation back in 1996:

“St. Pete Grand Jury Hears Testimony In Shooting
AROUND CENTRAL FLORIDA
November 07, 1996

ST. PETERSBURG — Witnesses began testifying Wednesday before a grand jury that will decide whether the police shooting that spurred a night of rioting two weeks ago was justified.

The 16-member grand jury meets in secret, and the testimony is closed to the public. It will decide whether police Officer Jim Knight should face charges for fatally shooting TyRon Lewis, 18, on Oct. 24.

About 300 people roamed the streets after the shooting, hurling molotov cocktails, rocks and bottles, and setting 29 fires. Several police officers and firefighters were injured in the melee. Damages have been estimated at about $5 million.”

I have not heard of them lately, but if the situation was reversed, and it was the kid who was killed, they would probably be out in force.

Take the little animal out behind the courthouse. Kneel him down in the grass and shoot him in the back of the head.

Public hanging would be good too. You can’t tell me that doesn’t serve as a deterrent! The Left is always telling us how the death penalty is not a deterrent. So what, it’s not called capital deterrence, it’s called capital PUNISHMENT. If it also serves to provide some deterrence then great, we’ll take the serendipity, but we’re not going to quit using it if it doesn’t.

Far as I know capital punishment worked every time it’s been used. I can’t think of a single criminal who has offended after capital punishment is used.

Student! What liberal B.S. This evil piece of garabge
had two felony priors.

The “students” name is Nicholas Lemmon Lindsey.
Since there have been riots in St. Pete’s the past 2 weeks why is this a surprise?

The perp is afro-America. The cop is white. Will Zer0
proclaim the youte acted “foolishly’?

Violence against cops is epidemic since Zer0 has been in office. Zer0’s legacy of anarchy.

Thanks to the wonderful SCOTUS, he cannot get the death penalty. He should be allowed to join the military, as a minesweeper in Afghanistan. Life expectancy - 2 minutes.

It actually worked in another way that seems to have been forgotten. Stick-up men working in NY NY were taught by their bretheren to NEVER bring a functional gun to a stick-up. Use a toy or disable or unload a real gun. To go into a hold-up job with NO POSSIBILITY of someone getting killed was the advice.
