For months now, Republicans have turned to each other and said, "Who's the candidate?"
President Obama is vulnerable in 2012, clearly, but you can't beat something with nothing, and right now, the GOP field looks pretty much like . . . nothing.
Who'll have the stature to compete? Thanks to those Democratic lawmakers fleeing Wisconsin and Indiana to frustrate the democratic process they swore an oath to uphold, we may have an answer.
They, and the demonstrators screaming about the governors seeking cuts in the absurdly generous benefits granted to public-sector workers, have created a national stage on which a new and dynamic candidate can emerge.
The governors (and perhaps the House members) who are taking on these battles are fighting the fight of the GOP future, and one of them now seems certain to take the mantle of 2012.
Judging from his extraordinarily effective speech last night, that governor could be Wisconsin's Scott Walker.
For a week, Walker's wilder opponents have dared to compare him to Hitler and Mubarak. The man who delivered last night's "fireside chat" sounded serious, reasonable, and anything but incendiary.

I don’t expect any candidate to be perfect but I do expect them to earn the candidacy based on more than one issue of the moment.
Here in Michigan Rick Snyder has sparked a fight with the public unions but that doesn’t mean he should be president. In fact he’s quite liberal on most social issues.
Indeed! WI and several such states need to keep their solid conservative governors for a while.

I like Walker a lot. But come on. This guy was a county councilor (or something) last year at this time... and a year later into the White House? I don’t think so.
Let him govern for 4-8 years and then run. He’s only 43. He’d be 51 (very young) after two terms.

After Obozo, the public is going to want a little more experience next time. (not that more experience would help 0-—he will just become more scheming, corrupt, bigoted, and anti-American with every passing year)
Kasich of Ohio? You mean the governor who campaigned on collective bargaining reform and saw his own GOP majority leader in the state senate cave like a house of cards to the minority liberals on the very bill that Kasich campaigned on? That Kasich? He can’t even keep the spine in his own majority leader stiff. How would he stand up to national pressure.
Maybe he can tab Indiana’s Mitch Daniels as his veep candidate - the Bluster and Wimpy Worm ticket.
I don’t think Walker wants to run for President but if we need a good candidate, he’s a viable future candidate... assuming he can win the showdown with the public unions in Wisconsin.
Obama served just one Senate term, he had no prior executive experience and before that he served in the IL legislature. Its hard to argue Walker is inexperienced. He served as the Milkwaukee County chief executive before he was elected Governor.
Right now, I’d place him in the “strong bench” category.
I wouldn’t mind him being in primary debates-—could be useful to conservatism. But I don’t see him taking the step for ‘12.

are those that have the guts to
STAND UP TO THE LEFT.
We’re sick and tired of letting them bully us,
and getting called “racist” or some such when we call them on it.
