16 States Going to War on Unions
The Daily Beast
Wed Feb 23, 11:52 pm ET
NEW YORK With Wisconsin locked in a union battle, The Daily Beast looks at the 15 states that could blow up next and crunches the numbers to find whether they're really on shaky financial footingor playing politics.
Revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt have toppled despotic governments, while Libyans are on the verge of doing the same. The stakes are not as high in Wisconsin and the 15 other states that have proposed or are expected to propose various levels of de-engagement from both public- and private-sector unions, but the spirit of the demonstrations throughout the Midwest has been as fierce as those in the Middle East.
At issue in the U.S. are the collective-bargaining rights of unionized public employees. States facing budget shortfalls and high debt payments want to curtail workers' collective-bargaining ability to in part gain flexibility in dealing with financial crises. Protesters in Wisconsin have found plenty of support and will be joined in solidarity Saturday by protests in every state capital.
By our count 16 states have proposed legislation similar to the bill cleared for vote last Wednesday by Wisconsin's Republican legislators, which would strip public-sector union workers of the right to bargain collectively about any on-the-job issue besides wages.

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! :)
Hopefully this get’s the ball rolling with the country. At least now it’s going in the right direction.
The simple solution with unions is the one that Ronald Reagan used on the Air Traffic Controllers - FIRE THEM ALL! The pundits said he couldn’t do it and the system would be compromised, but things worked out fine.
Rick Snyder tried to sidestep a fight with unions in Michigan but it looks like he’ll get one anyway.
About time, unions have been at war against us for a 100 years.
Ohio and Indiana are the first casualties. They’ve thrown in the towel and are waving the white flag of surrender to the unions.
The unions are now establishing beachheads in both states and will bolster their bretheren in Wisconsin - thanks to Micth Daniels in Indianapolis and the Ohio Sentae Majority Leader in Columbus.
There are two classes of people in New Jersey: Public employees who receive rich benefits, and those who pay for them.
Was _itch Daniels Bill Kristal’s presidential pick?
Pray for America
Public sector unions are nothing but money laundering schemes to steal taxpayer money and give it to democrats.
If the rats lose the government employee unions,
and we get voter ID in a significant number of states,
they’ll not see power for a LONG time.
I know about IN but what is going on in Ohio that you see as throwing in the towel?
Spell checker is required for lawyers.
I think the real fight is over mandatory deductions and pension control.
Imagine if public employees could have their NRA dues come directly out of the paycheck and have them pro-rated to income!
You STUPID union worshippers, if your elected idiot President hadn’t totally ruined our economy, we would not be in this position of taking down all of your precious union agreements.
forcing the AFL-CIO and Organizing for America to bus mobs into 16 different states will likely break them
Many states require that teachers have an education degree, a few only require any kind of college degree.
How many unemployed degree holders would jump on a teachers job in a heart beat? Fire these and hire new ones.
I publicly and vehemently agreed with Reagan’s firing the PATCO workers, when it was a very unpopular move in the quarters I was in at the time. Public workers should not have the right to strike over any issue, especially teachers and air traffic controllers, fire fighters, police and many other public workers, nor should they be negotiating with the very people they buy into office, a clear conflict of interest
I am a 31 year retired union member and one time union officer.
No, I think B Krystal wants the big fat bully from NJ.
The picture must have been taken with a wide, wide, wide angle lense.
I’m interested what the states are, but not enough to go through their fancy-schmancy multi-page graphics.
