Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee came out in defense of President Barack Obama and his professed Christian faith on Thursday.
During a press briefing at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Huckabee criticized the debates over Obama's religion and birthplace as "useless" and "unnecessary."
"I know for some people that is an obsession but it's not with me," said the Southern Baptist.
With rare public appearances at churches on Sundays and a smaller percentage of Americans (34 percent, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life) who believe the president is a Christian, debate continues to loom over Obama's faith.
Weighing in on the debate, Huckabee stated, "He has personally articulated not once, but numerous times of his Christian faith. I take him at his word. I have no reason not to.

I think people should be asking, “Is Mike Huckabee qualified to be President?” Rather than Sarah Palin.
Well, I will say this. I think Huckabee is just as big a fake Christian as Obama. He’s just better at faking it. He is Elmer Gantry on steroids.

Look, it’s simple. Christians worship Jesus. Muslims worship Allah. Barack Obama worships…himself.
I mostly agree with him, as a candidate, not diving in. But as a Christian, saying “I have no reason not to”? Doesn’t sound as if Huckabee recognizes Biblical faith as a worldview rather than a few isolated checked boxes.
Yes, Mike is that big a sucker. Huck could have danced around the issues by saying he doesn’t care what Obama’s religion and birthplace are, but this is willful stupidity.

For a preacher of the Gospel to not examine the evidence and then pronounce someone a Christian when there is no outward evidence,shows what a stalking horse this Arkansas poser really is.

Huckabee: If you run for president, I want to see a copy of your long form birth certificate attached to your application in all 50 states---especially in Hawaii---so that it becomes part of the public record and we can examine it in detail, something that Obama won't let us do with his Hawaii long form birth certificate, because it probably doesn't exist.
Huckabee's laughable statement: He says that if there had been a problem with Obama's Hawaii long form birth certificate, HILLARY CLINTON'S presidential campaign would have found it.
My point is this: I don't trust Hillary very much. So for Huckabee to give Hillary's campaign credit for a very thorough, objective investigation of fellow democrat Obama is too funny for words.
And for Huckabee to even imply that Hillary's campaign would have released Obama's birth certificate information to the public---especially if the information was bad for Obama----because Hillary would have believed it to be her patriotic duty is, again, a laughable statement from Huckabee, a supposedly very experienced and shrewd politician.
McCain: And if Huckabee had inserted McCain into his statement instead of inserting Hillary, I would still label Huckabee's statement "laughable".
And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if the Obama campaign had some dirt on Hillary and her husband that it held in reserve to use against Hillary, if Hillary suddenly started to play hardball with Obama's long form birth certificate controversy.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the Obama camp quietly told Hillary about the dirt it had on her and Bill. Welcome to the often vicious world of American politics.
I wish someone would ask him — or those like him — that if he has no reason to not take him at his word, why is there a blackout on the birth records, the school records, etc. Does he not have ANY question on O’s past? If not — why not?
