Just a few months ago, (see related stories box below), Gen. James "Hoss" Cartwright's many enemies were celebrating him being investigated for having an affair with one of his female aides.
It seems they popped the cork on the champagne too soon. The 61 year-old former fighter-pilot is a master of survival, and his blatant sucking up of both Barack Hussein Obama and Joe Biden has paid off in a big way.
Gen. Cartwright has been "cleared" by the Pentagon Inspector General's Office of any wrong-doing, and while he was very mildly rebuked for his judgment and indulgence of a favorite female military aide, ole "Hoss" will face no disciplinary action. All he gets is a wink and tap on the wrist. What a lucky guy!
The man called "Obama's favorite general" (can you guess why?) by noted author Bob Woodward dodged a bullet on this one. If he'd been punished, even a little bit, it might have derailed his hopes to succeed Admiral Mike Mullen as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when the Navy flag officer retires on October 1st. Now, it looks like Cartwright is a shoo-in for the job.
Which just goes to prove the old axiom, he (or she) who plays politics best, wins.
ARROGANT FEMALE AIDE CAN GO BACK ON THE SAUCE
As for the pampered and protected female Marine officer aide, she can go back to being the extremely obnoxious and out-of-control drunk she has been for some time.
Nothing will happen to her except getting a promotion, but we have to ask you, if a male aide had become belligerent with Secret Service agents at Washington's Alfalfa Club, or passed out drunk at the foot of the married general's bed after midnight in a foreign country, that individual would be looking for a new job.
This particular person will now be emboldened by "Hoss's" free pass and can go back to referring to her boss by affectionate, cute little "nicknames." But whatever you do, DON'T think there was ANYTHING going on between these two. Everything was all, as they say, above-board.
And if you believe that, we have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, real cheap.
1. if his name is hoss cartwright, i’m gonna need some solid evidence that he’s a bad guy.
2. passing out drunk at the foot of your boss’s hotel bed is not a capital offense, as far as i’m concerned.
3. the military has pulled a hell of a lot weight in the last ten years. although im generally an interested reader of military corruption, this particular article seems a bit reaching.
4. that is all.
An Inspector General (IG) serves as “An extension of the eyes, ears, voice and conscience of the commanding general.” All they look at is standards. It’s up to the commanding general to do something.
Pretty much impossible to convict anyone of adultery unless one of the participants fesses-up. “Yes, we were in the same motel room, but we just did that to save the taxpayers some money. We just watched tv.” A female in the military using her looks and sex to get ahead? I’m shocked, shocked I say.
