Bennett: GOP needs 'national view' candidate (ousted RINO attacks Tea Partiers, conservatives)
Politico ^ | 2011-02-26 | Jedd Rosche

Former Utah Sen. Bob Bennett urged Republicans to nominate a presidential candidate with a "national view," and not focus on the ideological purity found in the early caucuses and primaries.

"If you're going to nominate a national candidate, don't make the mistake of assuming that those who attend the early caucuses and early primaries speak for the nation as a whole," he said, speaking to Greta Van Susteren on Fox News on Friday. Bennett referred to 2010 midterm Senate races as a "cautionary tale" to Republicans whose candidates fail to attract moderate voters, in particular Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in reelection win over tea party favorite Joe Miller. He said the tea party candidates cost the Republicans a majority in the Senate.

"If you're going to nominate a national candidate you better have a national view, and we've always done that. The Republican nominee has almost always been closer to the center than the center of gravity of the Republican party," Bennett said.

Want to bet that Bennett is pimping for Romney?

Interesting...the pimping of a pimp.

But Angle, O'Donnell, Miller, Fiorina, and other Senate candidates served their purpose though. They prevented the more liberal Republican from winning.

That's what the main goal of running Tea Party candidates were. Get the RINOs out, and if the Rat wins, so be it, but at least people can see the difference.

Also Bennett completely ignores the Governorships, state legislatures, and House candidates that Tea Party candidates were victorious in. Typical clueless establishment Republican who just doesn't get it.

Idiocy. We call a Republican with a 86 ACU rating a RINO?

Please, no more Sharon Angles or Christine O’Donnells.

We all to often forget that to govern, one must first win the General Election, and some tea party candidates were idiots.

Idiocy.

They lost. Period! In politics, victory is everything. "Losing well", or losing in any way at all, is total defeat.

By that logic, let's elect all Democrats, so the people will see how bad they are.

Just watching that slimy old Bennett last night creeped me out.

He looks like the evil doctor in the grainy old silent horror film "Nosferatu".

He got das boot from the voters and now his bony fingers won't let loose of his past 13 minutes of fame.

Get out the garlic, the crucifix and the wolfbane next time you see him on your screen.

PS, had those and other losers npt run, we could have had a majority in the Senate.... and Harry Reid would have been old news.

>not focus on the ideological purity

Yes. That works so well to elect a GOP candidate.

>you better have a national view, and we’ve always done that.

And you have always lost.
Even GB was not presented as a “national” candidate.

Yep, that’s just how he looked giving the interview. As soon as I figured out he was still all sour grapes and living in denial, I had to turn it off. Good grief. This man needs to get off the sauce.

After 18 years in the Senate, the Great Bob Bennett was defeated by the Tea Party. He still can't believe it. He'll never get over it. He was shown the door, vamoosed, told to hit the road.

Now, he'll slam the Tea Party every chance he gets. The Tea Party has not heard the last from Bob Bennett. He is now on a mission of destruction.

Excellent point. Every revolution produces its share of principled but inexperienced revolutionaries. If Sharron Angle ran again, ideally at lower level, she’d be more experienced, more organized, and less prone to gaffes. She’d presumably be better at sticking to a script and a schedule. She’d be a winner.

I just saw Bob Bennett on FOX News a couple of hours ago being interviewed by Greta. He came across as understanding nothing about American politics and he had no idea why he lost in November. The guy seemed nothing more than a bad joke. Good riddance.

Bennett ought to run for President. He isn’t a Tea Partier. He must have broad appeal.

"Idiocy. We call a Republican with a 86 ACU rating a RINO?"

Idiot. You can get a 80% ACU rating for 20$, cash, to David Keene and a having a pulse.

That 86% is compared to......other Senators, including liberals. That is like saying Khrushchev was a free market Sectary General of the Soviet Union compared to Stalin. It is all about were you start.

Further, as I have posted many times, both parties game together the ratings. You vote on 9 post offices named after conservatives and one three trillion budget and you get 90% ACU ratings. All votes are not equal. These RINO's, fake conservatives manufacture many trivial votes to fluff up their supposed conservative creditials.

“Please, no more Sharon Angles or Christine O’Donnells.”

You would have preferred Mike Castle? I'm waiting for your reply that the most liberal member of the House wasn't a RINO/

I respectfully disagree with former senator Bennett.

IMHO what we need is a Constitutional view candidate!
