SAS 'Blades' rescue 150: Crack helicopter commandos snatch terrified Britons from desert(Libya)
DailyMail ^

Posted on 02/26/2011 3:43:24 PM PST by nuconvert

SAS troops last night staged a dramatic evacuation of 150 civilian workers from the Libyan desert.

The Special Forces soldiers landed in two C130 Hercules military transport aircraft on a landing strip near remote oilfields south of the eastern port of Benghazi.

The SAS men – known as ‘blades’ because of their role at the sharp end of the mission – had flown from Malta’s Valletta airport, where, in meticulous detail, they planned the rescue of the stranded workers, many of them British.

The Brits send in C-130’s with troops and weapons (we have C-130’s)

the Chinese and others send in warships for their people..with troops and weapons. (We already had warships in the Mediterranean.)

But WE send them a small puddle hopper ferry - that couldn't leave port for 3 days due to high seas. Thew could have been taken hostage at any time - and how does the crew of the ferry fight back?

I hears that oblunder didn't want to send in our warship because he didn't want it to appear a provocation.

Oh, okay then.

This isn't America's fight. The Libyan people have to win this on their own...

tell that to the Chi-town street gang in the WH - and then reread your sentence 3 weeks from now.

By the time all of the Foreign nations have their people out of Libya, there isn’t anyone going to be left to do any of the work.

Let’s face facts. If Libyans where the hard-working productive sons of guns they want people to believe they are, then why do they need so many foreigners in the Country in the first place?

These evacuations are going to completely shut Libya down. Libyan Arab tribesmen be slaughtering each other over water to drink in a couple of weeks, much less worrying about oil to sell....

Disagree...we had most of a Navy/Marine Corps amphibious group in the Red Sea, and the USS Enterprise battle group in the same area—more than enough to launch NEO ops in Egypt, or keep the Suez Canal open, if need be.

As the Brits demonstrated, you can evacuate a fair number of people by air, w/o naval support. And the UK’s list of available assets pales in comparison to what we have. But the Brits had one thing we lacked: a leader with the resolve to us his military assets to remove British citizens from Libya.

The Weekly Standard has a great article on our “ferry evacuation,” noting that Obama’s impotent response is even below that of Jimmy Carter’s during the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Painful, but true.

That was the civil chartered aircraft in Tripoli. Everybody that went through Tripoli had to pay bribes in order to get out. Those C-130s didn’t seek permission to go into rescue the oil workers.

The fluid nature of war requires adapting to changes. Bribes, etc. were adaptations that resulted in a flawless evacuation.

Unlike our own pathetic administration’s attempts at an evac.

No, the British mission was NOT flawless. They had to pray bribes to let airplanes land.

What exactly is the fault with that? Unethical financial dealings? LOL

With 0bambi at the helm sending in an American warship is a provocation.

When China sends a warship it is intimidation.

I don't like the ChiCom government at all but if you're going to project military power for any purpose you have to have a Dirty Harry mentality to it.

"Do ya feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?"

Even a nut like Mallow Mar isn't stupid enough to think that China would be bluffing.

I wonder how much more the MoD will have to cut to pay for this operation?

It was reported that they were being protected by American security of some kind.

"Some kind" How assuring.

Let's see, the Chinese sent in a war ship, the English and Italians, C-130's, the Germans, a Navy ship with helicopters, Bosnian government sent two planes to Libya to evacuate about 275, Greece sent planes, The Netherlands a C-130, The Russians, etc etc.

And we sent a small ferry that couldn't head out on the sea for 3 harrowing days.

They sure have those gun turrets ts on that ferry well hidden. Good thing the rebels were too busy to attack - they might have met a barrage of heavy gunfire.

America can stand proud. 'sarq'

It's also reported that we have a president - "of some kind."

(Or did you leave off the 'sarq?')

C-130s? How bout a Spectre mission over some hideouts, and rolloff some daisycutters for good measure. But Barry is not down with the program; HRC will scare the crap out of them by opening up the industrial grade barrel of “smart power.”

Zer0 is not incompetent. He clearly sides with Quadaffi
or acidify however his name is spelled. Sending a ferry is an insult.
