Labor Secretary Solis: "Elections do matter" ["public employees are under assault"]
CNN ^ | February 26, 2011 | Steve Brusk

An impassioned Labor Secretary Hilda Solis rallied Democratic party members Saturday to tell voters "elections do matter" as she gave a detailed – and political – response to the Wisconsin union fight.

Solis delivered her remarks before the Democratic National Committee winter meeting, in the same hotel where conservative activists held their annual convention two weeks ago. But the message was decidedly different, as Solis accused Republicans of turning back the clock on workers' rights.

The Labor Secretary told the crowd cuts in benefits isn't the issue in the dispute playing out in Wisconsin and other states. "We know, we know that many states are facing tough budget decisions. We know that there is room for shared sacrifice. Shared sacrifice. And we've seen our brothers and sisters in public employee unions willingly give up… fair share and to negotiate. They have all offered to negotiate in good faith to help their states stay afloat, even in these tough times."

But she claimed, "the governors in Wisconsin and Ohio aren't just asking workers to tighten their belts, they're demanding they give up their uniquely American rights as workers", Solis said, later adding public employees "want to be at the table. But it's not what the other party wants."(continued)

Good article:

Public employee unions needed? Or harmful?
February 22nd, 2011,by Mark Landsbaum

The hubbub in Wisconsin may end up visiting California soon, considering that we have lots of powerful public unions and fiscal calamity. (Notice how those go hand in hand?)

& poll for freeping:

Government workers should have

* it no better than anyone else
* civil service protection
* collective bargaining
* luxurious health and pension benefits
* #s 2, 3 and 4

Typical liberal...thinks we're all stupid.

Hey, Hilda, unions haven't been about employees' rights in a long, long time and we all know it.

Unions are about getting Democrats in office and getting as much (while producing as little) from the public trough as they can.

We're on to it, Hilda. And we're broke. We can't afford your precious unions anymore.

And yet the public union members that work for her don’t have the right to bargain for wages our benefits.

It's the taxpayers who have no seat at the table. If you're feeding from the public trough, the PUBLIC should get to decide what's on the menu.

We're tired of feeding them caviar and having them tell us it's dog p00p.

If government treats its employees so badly that they need to unionize against it in order to be treated decently, why do the very same people unionizing against givernment, uh, government, want governments to control not only their own health care, education, retirement, and protection, but also of other people who aren’t even its employees, who they already mistreat?

Dept of Labor should be renamed Dept of Democrat Funding. They have been pro union for so long, it’s all they know.

Lets defund the department Labor. What is the purpose of this department. At the Sate Level the Sate does a better job dealing with labor issues of the populace of the State. The department sounds more like it would be a redundancy of what the states already do. Rather stupid to have so many departments like the Department of Edcation too. Sates can achieve this issue much better than a cabinet position Smaller Government consists of making less federal buraucracy and returning the power to the states.

I see a fight on our hands as States wish to have more States Rights and the decentralization of the Federal Government to a Smaller limited Government. DC will not relent. Odumbo will strive to buy off individual States to support his agenda, More states will tell the Federal Government to go to a rather warm place and I do not mean hawaii.

was not there a civil war fought in this country a 150 years ago over States Rights or Called the War Betyween the Sates as it apthly should be called..

Odumbo desire lets take ameria back in time to the Civil war Area and reconstructionism of the USA

I can’t wait until this token is back out in the labor market, preferably without being able to be hired only on the basis of gender, ethnicity, or a combination of both. Why wouldn’t one gubmint workers side with other gubmint workers?

This demolition of the unions is now taking place on Solis' watch.

She will be hated by Democrats for years to come. LOL.

When they say: public employees are under assault.

They really mean, "we are screwed as a party without taxpayer money laundered through public employee unions."
