MADISON, Wisc. — The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed a budget bill that strips state workers of their union bargaining power, but it's still not a done deal.

Republicans passed the measure in Madison early Friday morning over loud protests from opponents.

But the bill has hit a roadblock in the state Senate because 14 democrats fled the state to stall the vote.

Good article:

Public employee unions needed? Or harmful?
February 22nd, 2011,by Mark Landsbaum

The hubbub in Wisconsin may end up visiting California soon, considering that we have lots of powerful public unions and fiscal calamity. (Notice how those go hand in hand?)

& poll for freeping:

Government workers should have

* it no better than anyone else
* civil service protection
* collective bargaining
* luxurious health and pension benefits
* #s 2, 3 and 4

You would have countries that are economic disasters.

Like Greece?

Our own country is an "economic disaster".

Where is it written in stone that any retirement benefits and health insurance premiums for public employees are to be paid by the taxpayers. I paid 100% of my retirement and health insurance through the years, so why are we paying theirs?

I keep thinking of that event some years ago in Bethlehem when the muzzies seized the church there and desecrated it.

For the umpteenth time, it's not that the Democrats aren't there, it's that they need 20 senators to make 60% quorum, and there are only 19 Republicans. If 20 Republicans had been elected, instead of 19 and 14 Democrats, then the Republicans could vote without the Dems.

In the Assembly, the Dems didn't run out because the Republicans held 60% of the seats.

This has been suggested, and explained , about a dozen times.

It is the total number needed, not the party of those who vote.

I.E. They need a quorum of 20. They only have 19 Republicans. Having one change to a democrat and vote doesn’t alter the fact they still only have 19 people.

(numbers not exact, just used for the example)

I’d keep passing non-fiscal bills, like voter ID, till they squeal.

Your solution is no less reprehensible than what the Bolshies are doing, and, therefore, since there is no rule against, it is entirely legal.

The solution is to change the rules: no one elected to the legislature shall miss a session, without a note from the coroner, under penalty of duration of term in prison, a hefty fine and expulsion.

Or, elect enough Republicans to defeat any such shenanigans.
