Small Nuclear War Could Reverse Global Warming for Years
National Georgraphic ^ | Feb 22, 2011 | Charles Q. Choi

Regional war could spark "unprecedented climate change," experts predict.

Even a regional nuclear war could spark "unprecedented" global cooling and reduce rainfall for years, according to U.S. government computer models.

Widespread famine and disease would likely follow, experts speculate.

Earth is currently in a long-term warming trend. After a regional nuclear war, though, average global temperatures would drop by 2.25 degrees F (1.25 degrees C) for two to three years afterward, the models suggest.

Grat. So let's have a little nuclear war, to reverse global warming. (I am being sarcastic, of course!)

Of course all these models that predict global warming or global cooling, etc., are based on millions of assumptions, and most likely many of those assumptions are wrong.

There’s got to be more to “scientific opinion” than simply “the opinion of a scientist.”

No nuclear limit: China

http://www.theage.com.au/world/no-nuclear-limit-china-20110227-1ba0l.html

HIGH-RANKING Chinese officials have declared that there can be no limit to the expansion of Beijing’s nuclear arsenal, amid growing regional fears that it will eventually equal that of the United States, with profound consequences for the strategic balance in Asia.

Records of secret defence consultations between the US and China reveal that US diplomats have repeatedly failed to persuade the rising superpower to be more transparent about its nuclear forces and that Chinese officials privately admit that a desire for military advantage underpins continuing secrecy.

I think what applies to these models, is:

“You can start with erroneous assumptions, then use impeccable logic, to arrive at the grand fallacy”

or more simply GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)

Actually, this is a revival of the “Nuclear Winter” scare which predated the Global Warming scare which predated the Climate Change scare which predated the Global Climate Catastrophe scare. Looks like they are going back to Step 1 now.

Ah yes, "Nuclear winter," a favorite disaster scenario of the late unlamented idiot Carl Sagan and hordes of hippie dippie assholes back in the '80's.

Some ideas are just too bad to die.

Isn't this a follow up to the TTAPS study in the 1970s, showing the soot and dust from a nuclear war would increase atmospheric albedo and decrease insolation?
