New Life Church hero says she was asked to leave because she's gay

COLORADO SPRINGS - The security guard who saved lives by shooting a gunman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs has apparently been asked to leave.

In December 2007, Jeanne Assam - working as a volunteer security guard - shot Matthew Murray after he killed two people outside the church. He killed two others the night before at a training center for Christian missionaries in Arvada.

Assam was honored for her quick action. Murray likely would’ve killed more people at the church if she had not shot him repeatedly then pinned him down.

Assam says last year when she told church leaders she is gay, she was asked to leave the church.

New Life pastor Brady Boyd told the Colorado Springs Gazette the report is untrue. "We would never tell someone to leave because of their sexual orientation," Boyd says. "Jeanne will always be a hero at New Life."

Assam gave a speech on Saturday, February 19 at the Pride Center’s annual masquerade ball, a fundraiser for the gay community in Colorado Springs.

The Gazette reports she spoke of the pressures society places on gay people.

New Life Church was in the national spotlight in 2006 when Pastor Ted Haggard left after admitting he had had a relationship with a male escort in Denver.

The Bible teaches us to repent from our sins and turn away from our old selves and strive to live in rightesouness. If this woman continues to live the lifestyle that is called an abomination (Leviticus 18:22), then after following the instructions in Timothy for addressing such a one, the church would be right and proper to disassociate from this woman until such time as she leaves that lifestyle and returns to Christ.

I agree. There are no small sins. If this church thinks being an unrepentant lesbian is "worse" than some other sins, they are simply wrong. Every member of that congreagation is a sinner, and none are "better" than any other. We all need forgiveness.

I say again that I find this woman's story ... surprising.

Haggard was an equivocating non repentant scumbag throughout. About what you would expect from a slimy conman who sold religion while he smoked meth and got “massages” from a homosexual prostitute.

He said he threw the meth away and only got a massage. In other words, he did not repent.

And yet the call was out to forgive and forget?

Not likely!

I answered your question, she is a known perjurer which obviously is not good enough for you to be convinced. I know Brady Boyd and i belive him. I think you, have an axe to grind. Please keep your condescending remarks to yourself, I don't think your old enough to call me son...

So she’s being an advocate at a homosexual fundraiser, and is apparently unrepentive. Shame on her.

Ok...let me restate.

If she was not repentant, then they were right to ask her to leave. If she was repentant and dealing with the issue, then they shouldn’t have asked her to leave but help her through the issue.

Sorry if I wasn’t more clear, I’m at work and have to sneak in posts quickly.

Leviticus 18:22 is specific to male homosexual relations.

Women having sex with women is condemned elsewhere.

"Munching carpet is a sin I suppose.. so is cheating on your tithes.."

Really? Show me anywhere in the NT where a Christian has a obligation to tithe?

Assam gave a speech on Saturday, February 19 at the Pride Center’s annual masquerade ball, a fundraiser for the gay community in Colorado Springs.

It sounds an awful lot like she wants to be a militant gay and still maintain a place of honor in the church. The two positions are incompatible.

Homosexual tendencies are one thing. Militant homosexuality is another.

“So Haggard can smoke meth and get a massage from a male prostitute and all should be forgiven and forgotten, but this woman has to leave the congregation?”

I thought Haggard was fired.

I did not know this. In that case, yes, kick him out of the church until he repents.

An unrepentant sinner should not be allowed to contaminate the congregation. The Bible clearly teaches the homosexuality is a sin, and a person who is not trying to leave the old sinful life behind should not be allowed period. The Bible also clearly teaches that as well.

That’s not orientation, it’s conduct. Orientation is what people struggle with, conduct is what they do.

What if her sexual orientation was toward children or siblings. Would you consider that wrong?

I think that a lot of people have missed that tithing was to support the tribe of Levi who were the priests and had no land. That doesn’t hold true for the Christian church.

It would seem very likely that this woman is both a hero(ine), and a tool of the LGBT movement, striking out at organized religion (especially Christian religion).

They might have promised her financial support if she would ‘get fired’ somehow and blame it on her sexual preference.

Just because she ‘was’ a hero, doesn’t mean she couldn’t bend over for a bunch of money, and some fame.

Of course, it could just be the ‘church’ (board members) deciding they didn’t want the association, because she had gone ‘public’ with her ‘sexual preference issues’.

Probably all of the above.

He resigned some, was fired from another. This while denying knowing the guy who later he admitted gave him a “massage” (cuz male prostitutes often moonlight as massage therapists) and sold him meth which he “threw away”.

He had a team “counsel” him and deem him ‘heterosexual’.

He is currently starting a NEW church!

I have gay family and friends and this has been a hot topic recently.

As a Christian, I believe I have a responsibility to show them love and kindness as I would any other family or friend. That said, should the topic of homosexuality come up, I also have a responsibility to be steadfast in my faith. The Bible is very clear that homosexuality is a sin.

I embrace the individual not the lifestyle.

After all that, I’ve still had extended family call me a “hatemonger” and tell me that the Bible was written by a bunch of old drunk men.
