Illinois Gun Info Plan Is Misguided and Dangerous
Fox News ^ | March 03, 2011 | John R. Lott Jr.

Suppose you or your family are being stalked by a criminal who intends to harm you. Would you feel safer putting a sign in front of your home saying "This home is a gun-free zone"? Would it frighten criminals away?

Most people understand that guns deter criminals. But, despite strong opposition from the Illinois State Police, Democrat Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan seems determined to publicly identify gun and non-gun owners across the state. For some unknown reason, The Associated Press made a Freedom of Information Act request to the police.

One would think that people in Illinois of all places would understand this problem. . . .

There’s a common misunderstanding on these Illinois threads and that is that if one has an F.O.I.D. card that one owns a gun. That card only allows you to own a gun and purchase ammo. It does not mean that you are a gun owner.

To be fair; it seems to me that it’s the Associated Press that intends to publicly identify FOID card holders. Lisa Madigan’s job is to see that the law is properly enforced. If the law requires disclosure of this information then she’s bound to pursue the appropriate course of action. I have no illusions as to what her personal opinions on the matter are likely to be, but it’s her job to follow the law even so.

I didn’t want to drag this thread too far off topic but I did want to point out the similarity in tactics.

In Washington state we’re dominated by lefties who consolidate and acquire power by any means available (sound familiar?!). As a result of that dominance in the state legislature we have a healthy grassroots initiative process at play by the conservatives. If the legislature won’t do their job the people will do it for them - directly ;-)

So ACORN came in and did a FIOA request of every signer of an initiative that the left was fighting in order to confront people at their homes about their choices - clear and malevolent intimidation. Our state supreme court decided in their favor.

This was covered in at least one thread on FreeRepublic last year and I’ll see if I can find it for you if you’re interested.

IIRC, California backers of Prop 8 ? (against gay marriage) were listed and then bullied and picketed at home.

There was a story with it when it originally was posted in FR. The neighbor complained to police, who measured it’s size, location etc and told the neighbor it was a legal sign.

Treasure trove for criminals.

Check the gun list prior to a home invasion.

Know in advance where you can rape, rob, terrorize with impunity.

Pretty much drops work related injury down to nothing.
